About the Role

Uber is seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager (TPM) to drive structure and coordination for large-scale, complex initiatives around secure enablement of GenAI initiatives or leverage GenAI solutions to tackle complex security & privacy use cases.

The Uber Technical Program Management (TPM) team plays a critical role in driving high-impact, org-wide initiatives and continuously improving processes to enhance the efficiency of our product and engineering organizations.

The security organization at Uber is dedicated to enabling safe and secure innovation while protecting the communities we serve both online and in the physical world. Our teams are responsible for protecting both people and their data across intersections of the digital and physical world. The primary objective for Uber Engineering Security team is to enable the technical ambitions of the company while maintaining the highest standards of security for our customers and partners.

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----
  1. You move fluidly from the big picture to the details so that the team can deliver complex and strategic cross-functional GenAI security initiatives, often with tight deadlines. You are a bridge and a connector for the company. You are intuitive, focused, driven, organized, insightful, and productive. You break through communication issues and effectively develop relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. You build trust across the organization. You are not afraid to be direct, but you strive to act with empathy and integrity. Following are some of the core responsibilities of TPMs at Uber:
  2. Manage complex and large-scale cross-team, cross-functional initiatives. Interface with engineering managers and engineers to estimate work efforts, define milestones, and manage resources. Track progress, resolve dependencies, evaluate risks, and communicate status to upper management and program stakeholders. Engage and energize project teams to achieve aggressive goals.
  3. Proactively remove obstacles to drive momentum and progress. Identify communication gaps, manage issue escalations, and provide support to teams balancing competing priorities. Drive results proactively.
  4. Understand technical implementation at the architecture level and propose technical alternatives when necessary. Ask questions that clarify priorities and push the team to be highly effective. Develop broad domain and technical knowledge.
  5. Understand product compromises. Have the end customer in mind and be able to bridge between end customer and technical aspects with a data-driven approach to increase our efficiency.
  6. Help manage the cross-functional strategic planning and business planning process, leading conversations with key stakeholders to develop concepts for strategic initiatives, and developing those into detailed program / project plans (including roadmaps, funding planning, resource planning, clear objectives, measurable outcomes, and hiring goals).
  7. Continuously improve and scale the organization. Implement continuous improvements to the engineering organization and the program management process. Share program/project process frameworks, tools, and best practices that can be adopted throughout the organization. Improve product development and delivery. Mentor project management skills within our engineering leadership team.
  8. Manage cross-functional initiatives across diverse teams, ensuring milestones, KPIs, and risk controls are well-defined, tracked, and communicated to executive stakeholders.

---- Basic Qualifications ----
  1. 5+ years of technical program management or Engineering Manager experience in AI/ML, data platforms, or security-focused roles.
  2. Strong understanding of Generative AI technologies and their application for Product, data and Enterprise security use cases.
  3. Proven track record of driving complex, cross-functional programs from inception to launch with the ability to influence technical and executive stakeholders.
  4. Familiarity with data infrastructure, offensive security, application security, cloud infrastructure, MLOps, and software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  5. Technical degree with years of software development experience, large scale distributed infrastructure exposure, strong technical aptitude, and collaborative with engineers
  6. Analytical and truth seeking. Ability to understand complex concepts and make reasoned decisions objectively.
  7. Metrics driven: Experience determining effective program KPI's and using them to measure program success and issues.
  8. Strong organizational skills to juggle many tasks without losing sight of the highest priority items.
  9. Excellent in identifying process gaps, measuring progress, and balancing engineering and product efficiency with process overhead.

---- Preferred Qualifications ----
  1. Experience working with application security, red teaming, and/or offensive security technologies.
  2. Prior exposure to open-source LLMs or vendor APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Gemini, Cursor, etc.).

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$180,000 per year - USD$200,000 per year.

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$180,000 per year - USD$200,000 per year.

For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$180,000 per year - USD$200,000 per year.
