Senior Software Engineer

About the Role

As a member of the Merchant Growth team, you will be responsible for building solutions to drive merchant success on the Uber Eats platform. You will work alongside backend and web engineers, product managers, and designers to ship impactful products.

The initiative will focus on helping merchants across segments and lifecycles be the best version of themselves on the platform.

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

1. Architecting and Designing Systems: You'll lead the architecture of distributed backend systems, balancing scalability, security, and cost efficiency. You'll also design and implement large-scale tools and systems that are reliable and performant.
2. Coding and Development: Writing high-quality, maintainable code is a core part of the job. This includes designing, coding, testing, and launching backend services and APIs at a global scale. You are also expected to "abstract and refactor" code as a passion, not a chore.
3. Technical Leadership and Mentorship: Senior Engineers are expected to set the technical vision for their team and mentor junior engineers. You'll be responsible for conducting code reviews, participating in design discussions, and finding opportunities to improve team processes and promote standard practices.
4. Collaboration and Strategy: You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, including leaders, engineers, product managers and business stakeholders, to deliver solutions that drive business impact. This role involves aligning the team on solutions to ambiguous problems and analyzing trade-offs of different technical approaches.

1. 5+ years of total experience
2. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience
3. Strong expertise in high-level programming languages GoLang, Java etc
4. Strong experience in architecture design, high availability, and high-performance systems. Demonstrated experience developing sophisticated backend systems.
5. Ability to learn quickly on the go. We're looking for software engineers who thrive while learning new technologies and don't believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. You should be able to easily adapt to meet the needs of our massive growth and rapidly evolving business environment.

1. Experience in machine learning, GenAI, or LLM technologies is advantageous.
2. Familiarity with large scale distributed systems like Kafka and cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
3. Strong passion to learn new technologies quickly and adapt to rapidly evolving business and technological landscape.
4. Enthusiasm for embracing new challenges and continuous learning to drive innovation. Proven track record of scaling systems on a multi-cloud infrastructure.
5. Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and drive engineering excellence.
6. Ability to perform in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with tight deadlines.
