About the Role
We are looking for candidates with a passion for solving new and difficult problems with data. In this role, you will be able to use your strong quantitative skills in the fields of machine learning, statistics, and/or operations research to improve the Uber user experience as well as the overall marketplace performance. You'll be joining the Driver Pricing team to design, evaluate, a build our systems for pricing trips for drivers
As an Senior Scientist you will solve key business problems including designing pricing structures for drivers, measuring causal impacts of offer pricing, and creating ML-driven optimizations for marketplace growth. You will work hand in hand with product, engineering, and operations on new product launches, experiment design and algorithm development. What You'll Do
- Build statistical, optimization, and machine learning models for applications including pricing, product UI, and experimentation.
- Work with engineers and product managers to turn data science prototypes into robust, reliable solutions.
- Use data to understand product performance and to identify improvement opportunities.
- Solve ambiguous, challenging business problems using data-driven approaches.
- Work closely with multi-functional leads to develop technical vision, new methodological approaches, and drive team direction.
- Develop new methodologies for data science including modeling, coding, analytics, optimization, and experimentation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as product, engineering, operations, and marketing to drive system development end-to-end from conceptualization to final product.
Basic Qualifications
- Ph.D., M.S. or Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathemathics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operations Research, or other quantitative fields.
- Minimum 2 years of industry experience as an Applied or Data Scientist or equivalent.
- Ability to use Python or R to work efficiently with large data sets
- Experience designing experiments and interpret the results to draw detailed and actionable conclusions across a variety of key performance indicators
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills: able to lead initiatives across multiple product areas and communicate findings with leadership and product teams.
- Experience leading key technical projects and substantially influencing the scope and output of others.
- Knowledge of experimental design and analysis or experience with exploratory data analysis and model development
- Experience communicating qualitative research methods and findings to non-qualitative researchers
- Track record of engaging senior leadership effectively to build understanding of and consensus for the viewpoints of the team
- Solid theoretical and applied ML skills and a strong background in mathematics and stats
- Solid Programming skills to prototype models in at least one of Python (preferably), R, Java, Go, Scala
- Expert in one of the following areas: Deep learning, ML System Design, A/B experimentation design, Causal Inference
- Experience of working with large dataset using Spark, Hive, HDFS is desired
- Analyze large data sets to identify behavior trends among good users and bad actors, using statistics, data mining, and machine learning techniques
- Thought leadership to drive multi-functional projects from concept to production.
For Canada-based roles: The base salary range for this role is CAD$164,000 per year - CAD$182,000 per year.
