Within this role the person has to develop and implement Public Policy strategies in India and South Asia. Our public policy team is responsible for working with policymakers, regulators, and third parties to make the positive case for Uber as a platform. That's about building lasting relationships in the cities where we operate with politicians and their staff, so they understand the benefits of Uber's services. Policy at Uber is business critical and has a real impact in our markets. - Advocacy & Issue Management: Advocate for policies that support ride-hailing innovation, regulatory modernization, and the broader mobility ecosystem. Lead efforts to influence policies that accelerate the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and promote sustainability in transportation.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner closely with internal teams-including Operations, Communications, Legal, and Tax-to provide strategic policy insights and ensure coordinated responses to regulatory developments.
- Regulatory Monitoring & Response: Monitor legislative and regulatory trends across the region. Develop strategies and lead campaigns to adapt to or influence regulatory shifts that may impact the business.
- Thought Leadership & Representation: Position Uber as a thought leader in the mobility and transportation policy space. Contribute to the development of white papers, policy proposals, and public communications.
- Karnataka & Tamil Nadu State-level Engagements: The person will have to extensively interact with State Government officials of Karnataka for regulatory unlocks as well as with the Unions in the state, so knowledge of local languages will be a big plus.
What the Candidate Will Do
- 8 years plus proven experience in public policy, government relations, or regulatory affairs. A Master's in Public Policy/International Relations/Business Administration/or similar fields.
- Working knowledge of Kannada and Tamil languages for local communication will be preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and drive complex policy outcomes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex policy issues to diverse audiences.
- Collaborative mindset with a track record of working effectively across cross-functional teams.
