The primary objective for Uber Engineering Security team is to enable the technical ambitions of the company while maintaining the highest standards of security and privacy for our customers and partners. As cybersecurity threats evolve, so do we.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Network Security Engineer to help protect and strengthen our global network infrastructure and cloud environments. As a key member of the Network Security team, you will support and enhance our security architecture, with a particular focus on Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) technologies. In this role, you will design, implement, and optimize scalable security tools and policies across complex hybrid environments. You will play a critical role in enforcing policy-as-code, improving system visibility, and mentoring junior team members.

What the Candidate Will Need / Bonus Points

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----
  1. Lead the development and enforcement of network access controls and segmentation policies across on-prem and cloud environments.
  2. Collaborate on policy-as-code initiatives to automate and scale network security enforcement.
  3. Support the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of network security tools.
  4. Monitor and analyze network traffic to identify and respond to security incidents and anomalies.
  5. Help improve security visibility and logging within container-based and cloud-native environments (e.g., Kubernetes, GCP, OCI).
  6. Partner with other security, infrastructure, and development teams to ensure security best practices are embedded across services.
  7. Stay current on emerging security threats, technologies, and industry trends.

---- Basic Qualifications ----
  1. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field.
  2. 5+ years of professional experience in network security, cybersecurity, or a related field.
  3. Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking, firewalls, VPNs, proxies, and network segmentation.
  4. Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., GCP, OCI) and container technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  5. Experience writing scripts or code (e.g., Python, Terraform) for automation and policy management.
  6. Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with a detail-oriented mindset.

---- Preferred Qualifications ----
  1. Hands-on experience with SASE platforms such as Zscaler or equivalent.
  2. Experience with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) or policy-as-code tools.
  3. Exposure to SIEM platforms and security analytics.
  4. Security certifications such as CCSP, CISSP, CCNP, or equivalent.

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$202,000 per year - USD$224,000 per year.
