Senior Data Scientist, Regulatory Analytics
About The Role
We are seeking a senior data scientist to join our Actioning data science and Incidents analytics team to focus on actioning regulations and compliance. This is a unique opportunity for an analytics-focused data professional to work at the intersection of data, regulations, and business strategy, and have a direct impact on our operations by ensuring we meet and respond to local regulations within the dynamic mobility and delivery space.
In this role, you will provide data expertise and leadership as we work to make this world a safer place to move around. You will be a key partner to a diverse set of stakeholders-including Legal, Policy, Regional Operations, Product and Engineering-providing the data analysis needed to guide strategic decisions and ensure compliance. Your success will be measured by your ability to quickly and effectively find and deliver key data and insights that directly inform strategic decisions and improve our processes, ensuring compliance.
---- What You Will Do ----
- Develop a deep understanding of what safety means on the Uber platform globally, and the actions we need to take to ensure safe and fair access to the platform.
- Become a subject matter expert on our safety, actioning and compliance datasets, guiding stakeholders on how to interpret and act on the data.
- Perform swift, ad-hoc, deep-dive analyses to provide critical insights and data to inform our response to regulatory and legal requirements, balancing accuracy with speed.
- Provide insights and context around regulatory data to stakeholders, highlighting risks, anomalies, or trends.
- Collaborate with Legal and Policy teams to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear data needs and communicate findings in a clear, concise, and actionable way.
- Define data requirements and generate reporting to external regulatory and legal entities.
- Work closely with cross-functional partners in Engineering and Product to build, maintain, and overhaul data pipelines and monitoring systems that ensure continuous compliance.
- Conduct root cause analyses for safety incidents and trends to help operational teams improve our processes.
- Anticipate the analytics needs of stakeholders and regulatory expectations, presenting findings to senior management to drive decisions.
---- Basic Qualifications ----
- Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in a data analytics-focused role.
- BA/BS in Economics, Finance, Math, Statistics, or a similar field.
- Excellent Excel and SQL skills for data extraction and manipulation.
- Demonstrated experience with at least one scripting language (Python, R preferred) for data analysis, automation, and pipeline building.
- Strong ability to translate business questions and regulatory requirements into analytical frameworks and actionable insights.
- Balance keen attention to detail with swift execution and creative problem solving.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$169,000 per year - USD$188,000 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$169,000 per year - USD$188,000 per year.
