Lead, Business Operations

Today Gurgaon, India

About the Role

This critical role is instrumental in shaping Uber's future growth in one of its most dynamic and high-potential regions. As the Regional Lead, you will lead our ambitious mission to achieve over 5 million earners by 2030 and foster strong relationships with regulators. In a market characterized by intense local competition and significant opportunity, we are seeking a visionary leader who is operationally adept, growth-oriented, and deeply connected to the local landscape.

You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Uber's local operations across the region. This includes driving the state and street agenda, leading all efforts in supply growth through our third-party suppliers (Heroes), and building favorable relationships with regulators and developing deep consumer insights. This pivotal role demands a leader capable of orchestrating immediate, explosive supply growth while simultaneously laying the groundwork for sustainable, long-term relationships with regulators and local unions.

As a key member of the India Ops Leads, you will bring profound earner empathy, operational excellence, and data-driven decision-making to address our most complex business challenges. You will manage a high-performing team and collaborate with cross-functional partners, both locally and globally, influencing product roadmaps and ensuring the voice of Indian earners is heard throughout Uber.

What the Candidate Will Do

  1. Architect and Scale Supply Growth for the region: Develop and execute a comprehensive vision, strategy, and roadmap to significantly expand our earner base. You will be responsible for the entire supply growth lifecycle, from acquisition and activation to earner lifecycle management (ELC), and will be held accountable for achieving ambitious growth targets.
  2. Drive Regulatory Operations: Lead the regulatory operations agenda in collaboration with policy, legal, and communications teams to position Uber as the preferred company across all states and streets across your region.
  3. Champion Earners and Drivers: Act as a fierce advocate for our earners and third-party suppliers, gaining a deep understanding of their needs, behaviors, and the socio-economic nuances of the region.
  4. Lead and Inspire a High-Caliber Team: Lead, coach, and develop a large team of 15-18 city teams. Foster a culture of high agency, innovation, and execution, empowering your team to incubate new business lines and address complex challenges.
  5. Master consumer insights and drive results: Understand the consumer requirements, pain points, and all aspects of making Uber the preferred mode for transportation in the region.
  6. Lead from the Front: Roll up your sleeves and lead by example. This role requires a leader who is comfortable with details and willing to spend significant time in the field with drivers to gather insights not found in spreadsheets.

What the Candidate Will Need
  1. Proven Operational Expertise: You have a demonstrated track record of driving large operational businesses in a senior leadership role. Ideally, this experience is within a mature, tech-enabled business (e.g., e-commerce, retail) or a fast-scaling, venture-backed startup. Experience in the large gig-economy is a strong plus.
  2. Deep Problem Solving: You possess proven experience navigating complex operational and business situations, thinking from first principles rather than relying on "cookie-cutter" strategies.
  3. Strategic & Analytical Acuity: You exhibit sharp business judgment and critical thinking skills, using data to establish priorities and construct a compelling strategic narrative.
  4. Profound Cultural Empathy: You have a deep understanding of the Indian market and can empathize with the diverse needs of our drivers. You lead with humility and are passionate about creating products and experiences that serve everyone.
  5. Exceptional Influence & Stakeholder Management: You are adept at influencing without direct authority and delivering results within a complex, matrixed, global organization. You are a collaborative individual who can bring cross-functional partners along.
  6. Strategic, First-Principles Thinker: You develop proactive winning strategies in complex environments, creating your own playbook rather than following one.

Uber's mission is to reimagine the way the world moves for the better. Here, bold ideas create real-world impact, challenges drive growth, and speed fuelds progress. What moves us, moves the world - let's move it forward, together.
