About the Role

Uber drives consumer engagement by sending millions of Marketing and Transactional messages per month via various channels like Email, SMS, Push Notifications & In-App Chat. This drives millions in incremental revenue by targeting timely, relevant and meaningful messages across its applications that results in progressive conversions.

CRM activity of this nature entails experimentation of communication strategies at scale that needs to be measured continuously with meaningful metric generation that can be consumed by Marketing, Data Science and Applied science teams for continuous improvement of their targeting strategies

Uber's CRM Measurement & XPHub team in Bangalore is growing and is seeking an Engineering Manager - II who can help us build the next level of CRM Measurement and Experimentation strategy for the Growth & Marketing Org. This strategy will define direction for tech that will build systems to measure business with large volumes of high quality data and experimentation self served automation.

In this role - you will get to collaborate with product managers, multiple engineering teams, data scientists and applied science groups to ensure we build best in class measurement platforms for our consumers like riders, drivers, eaters, couriers and restaurant partners globally.

What the Candidate Will Need / Bonus Points

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

  • Providing leadership and manage the team that would build and develop the core backend and data strategy which will impact overall Growth and Marketing platform
  • Engineering Quality and efficiency of the data systems that power growth marketing products and tools.
  • Collaborating with multiple Uber teams to build the bridge between business stakeholders, executive leaders and senior engineers.
  • Lead and grow a strong engineering team responsible for the next generation architecture for Uber communication gateway for multiple channels.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

  • Experience. Minimum 5+ years of experience as a manager and overall 12+ years of industry experience in a variety of contexts, during which you've built scalable, robust, and fault-tolerant systems.
  • You have a solid understanding of building data systems at scale: data integration and pipelines, fault tolerant high quality data systems to process very large volumes of data with high degree of completeness, correctness and freshness. Some experience and understanding of front-end, back-end, databases, caches, network protocols, etc. will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to contribute, influence and drive data and backend platform Initiatives that can serve multiple product lines using multi-tenant architectures and microservices principles.
  • Mentorship/ Guidance. You know that the most important part of your job is setting the team up for success. Through hiring, mentoring, coaching, and reviewing, you help other engineers make sound architectural decisions, improve their code quality, and get out of their comfort zone.
  • Hiring know-how. You're a thoughtful interviewer who constantly raises the bar for excellence. You believe that what seems amazing one day becomes the norm the next day, and that each new hire should significantly improve the team. You can articulate the team's challenges and growth opportunities to a potential candidate.
  • Strategic mindset. You're comfortable thinking a few steps ahead of where the team is at now.

  • You are comfortable jamming on complex architecture and design principles with senior engineers.
  • Bias for action. You believe that speed and quality aren't mutually exclusive. You've shown good judgment about shipping as fast as possible while still making sure that products are built in a sustainable, responsible way.
  • Commitment. You care tremendously about keeping the Uber experience consistent for users and strive to make any issues invisible to riders. You hold yourself personally accountable, jumping in and taking ownership of problems that might not even be in your team's scope.
