Engineering Manager II, Capacity Engineering
About the Role
The Capacity & Efficiency Engineering (CEE) organization is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Engineering Manager to join our dynamic team in Amsterdam. This role requires a unique blend of expertise in capacity engineering (Planning, forecasting, allocation), data engineering, and full-stack development. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader, capable of designing, implementing, and optimizing complex systems to ensure scalability, reliability, and performance.
As an Engineering Manager, you will define and own the vision of this team to drive accountability across the company for multi-billion dollars spent on platforms.
Your scope/charter will include building team in Amsterdam, working/building analytical tools for understanding consumption patterns of infrastructure, liaising with stakeholders across the company to find inefficiencies and work with them to make our systems lean and efficient. You'll build and enhance our capacity analytics products that help drive our cost-to-serve efficiency programs while we grow Uber's infrastructure in the cloud.

What You Will Do
- Provide technical leadership in architecting, implementing, testing, releasing, and monitoring data models for intuitive analytics and business insights.
 - Build strong relationships within the organization through meaningful collaboration and trust-building.
 - Actively identify and solve engineering and business problems with minimal guidance.
 - Serve as a role model for sound judgment and responsibility in project planning and execution.
 - See the big picture and identify strategically important problems, inefficiencies, or opportunities for high-impact improvements.
 - Drive alignment and deliver high-leverage solutions at the group and organizational level.
 - Raise the bar on sustainable engineering by improving best practices and producing high-quality code, documentation, testing, and monitoring systems.
 - Mentor and advise both engineers and leaders, managing differing opinions maturely to help teams commit and move forward.
 
Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional software development experience.
 - 4+ years experience minimum with direct people management, including growing and mentoring junior and senior engineers.
 - Experience working in Finance while building planning, allocation, forecasting models.
 - Strong engineering skills, including reading open source code, implementing solutions and performance tuning.
 - Experience building large scale distributed software systems.
 - Industry experience in big data, Cloud based storage solution or related systems, preferably operating mission-critical systems to solve large-scale real-world problems; programming languages such as Python, Java, Go, C++ and Rust.
 - Experience working with a team to deliver large, complex and reliable software with strict SLA requirements.
 
Preferred Qualifications
- MS / PhD in Computer Science or related field.
 - Committer/Contributor to AI/ML or big data frameworks.
 - Experience developing solutions leveraging Cloud or data from cloud.
 - Experience developing with supporting business critical systems with 99.9+ availability.
 - Deep understanding of modern large scale systems.
