Director, Head of BizOps, Central Operations, EMEA
About the Team
Uber's EMEA Mobility business is a vital engine for growth and profitability, operating across more than 40 countries on three continents. This region presents unique opportunities and challenges due to diverse regulatory, competitive, and economic landscapes.
The EMEA Central Operations team is a well-established unit focused on accelerating mobility growth by scaling local and global best practices and deploying specialized expertise across countries. They work closely with local country teams and global partners. Within Central Operations, Business Operations (BizOps) team is responsible for building and continuously improving an advanced ecosystem of business data, tools, experiments, models, processes & controls, and using this ecosystem to identify, execute and deliver new, scalable opportunities to drive business value and growth, typically in partnership with other EMEA teams. This ecosystem empowers every Mobility Operations staff member to understand the ground truth of our business quickly, and drives increasing maturity of our operations month-by-month, year-by-year.

About the Role
The Head of BizOps is specifically responsible for accelerating business performance by enabling EMEA Rider, Driver, Marketplace and Small Cities teams to make better, faster, data-driven decisions. They also play a key role in the continuous improvement and up-leveling of our capabilities, from operational controls to analytics, from operating cost structure to experimentation. Reporting to the EMEA Head of Central Operations, with a dotted line to the Global Head of BizOps, this is a critical leadership role within the EMEA mobility business, and part of the Central Operations Leadership Team. It will also form part of the Global BizOps Leadership Team. The role leads a team of circa 17 resources in Amsterdam, from business analytics to operations data scientists, and is responsible for the EMEA Mobility impact of a near-shore 'Centre of Excellence' in Krakow (the "Amplify" team).
By virtue of its nature, the BizOps team (and the Head of BizOps) finds itself interacting with almost every team within EMEA Mobility, playing a key role in interactions with Risk, Safety, Payments, Financial Products and Customer Support teams, and works across the majority of high priority topics within EMEA, bringing these all together and enabling operational steering.
This role requires a leader with a uniquely diverse background, who has the ability to consume complex quantitative information and extrapolate it, who can credibly engage with business leaders and challenge them, and who thinks in systems in order to solve problems at scale and drive operational transformation.
What You'll Do
- Create and execute on the BizOps vision for EMEA; in partnership with peer Central Ops Leaders and local/regional stakeholders, and drawing on global capabilities, standards and scalable solutions to accelerate EMEA business performance
- Implement global solutions, standards, governance and innovations within EMEA, strengthening the impact of BizOps within mobility through a unified and coherent global approach to how we do what we do
- Lead, coach and empower a team of highly talented versatile professionals through mentorship, motivation, and by fostering a culture of continuous improvement and impact-orientation
- Oversee EMEA-mobility-oriented teams in Krakow, collaboratingwith Amplify colleagues to optimize the leverage model for all end customers
- Evangelise the mission and principles of BizOps with senior and junior stakeholders across Uber; including other LoBs, functional teams but also local Operations teams.
- Apply new / advanced capabilities to our business performance and decision making to role-model the future of Operations but also to demonstrate value and drive adoption of new tools. Partner with Global BizOps to bring insights from other regions, and top down Point of Views, enabling us to move towards a 'manage by exception' model
- Shape and then drive a portfolio of projects, with measurable results that impact EMEA PnL "above the fold". Ensure high velocity and high impact execution, unblock issues when they arise, provide active sponsorship and senior stakeholder engagement.
- Actively dive into and lead priority 'lean in' projects where senior leadership is required to ensure successful delivery.
- Make priority decisions to optimally allocate scarce and high value BizOps resources to the most impactful projects, whilst still leaving space for unproven 'test and learns' and for initiatives that have intangible, stakeholder engagement and/or capability development benefits.
What You'll Need

- Experience with tech marketplace business model & operations..
- Has worked in or led a transversal team within a complex matrixed organisation, working with a wide variety of stakeholders (Eng, Product, DS, Risk, Safety, Finance, etc.)
Capabilities
- Quantitative: STEM background, systems thinker who sees 'beyond the data' to understand the dynamics and systems that lie behind the numbers, and who is committed to factfulness and the appropriate acknowledgement of uncertainty.
- Communication & Influence: Able to create and communicate a vision across a number of technical domains, from "What is the right level of investment?" through to "Do we need to run this experiment?" to "How should we set up our analytical tooling infrastructure?"
- Stakeholder Management: Can work across a large number of senior and junior stakeholders and build their trust / buy-in, while translating their needs into a prioritised roadmap and managing expectations appropriately.
- Energy: You will get out of bed every morning certain in the knowledge that you're going to build something that will change how Uber operates, and therefore will have a direct impact on the ride-hailing market, how people move from A-B, and therefore human history. #GoGetIt.
