Director, Engineering - U4B
About the Role
We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead U4B's Guest Verticals and global B2B Billing & Invoicing platform, overseeing teams across the US, Brazil, and India. These sites represent high-performing technology hubs at Uber, with ~75 engineers today, and this leader will be responsible for scaling both the teams and their culture.
Guest Verticals drives several critical product lines-including Uber Health, Uber Vouchers, and operations & logistics solutions-while the Billing & Invoicing platform powers all aspects of payments, billing, invoicing, and reporting for our global business customers. This is a unique opportunity to lead engineering at scale, across geographies, on products that are transforming the way businesses move and engage with Uber.
What You'll Do
- Build and grow the team. You attract top talents to the shared vision of the team, create and refine the team structure to scale. At the same time, you mentor and coach individual contributors to grow both technically and managerially
- Lead the teams that will be responsible for a number of charters within the Uber for Business LOB's mission, including building E2E customer facing products for Uber guests, building global platforms, B2B experiences, services, and 3p/1P APIs.
- Drive gen AI based innovation at the application level
- Be a thought leader in building the long term vision and tech for Uber for Business, Guest Verticals, and Core B2B platforms at Uber
- Collaborate with and influence other engineering teams. You Partner effectively with Data Science, Product, Business and Ops to drive and shape the technical direction, both in terms of systems and modeling frameworks
- Strategize and influence the product vision and roadmap in collaboration with the product and business team
- Have an excellent executive presence to communicate the team's vision/plan effectively and represent the engineering organization and POV in the overall Delivery area
- Translate the strategic roadmap into a practical execution plan with quarterly OKR's
- Set up processes to handle ad hoc support requests from customers, sales, and make sure the general execution cycle is not disturbed
- Develop an operational model to achieve operational excellence for Product and Engineering metrics

Basic Qualifications
- BS/BE degree in Computer Science or related field
- A minimum of 10 years proven experience building software
- A minimum of 7 years of experience building and leading a software engineering team
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree
- Experience developing, launching, and scaling products
- Experience working on optimization and distributed systems for consumer-facing products
- Experience working cross-functionally with Product Management, Data Science, and Business stakeholders
- Optimistic and charismatic. The candidate should be comfortable with and willing to collaborate with both individual contributor engineers and product managers across the company.
- A candidate with an entrepreneurial spirit and experience.
