About the Role

Uber's Data Infrastructure and Strategy (DI&S) team, part of the customer support branch known as Community Operation, is dedicated to ensuring that customer support data is readily available for self-service through diverse data products. We are seeking a skilled individual to lead the Data Delivery Solution (DDS) aspect of our data operations. This critical role involves leading the strategic development, modernization, and transformation of our data delivery systems to serve both our internal teams and external partners effectively. As the DDS Lead, you will be tasked with crafting and executing sophisticated data delivery strategies, building robust architectures, and design solutions that meet our broad goals and satisfy user needs. You will play a key role in collaborating with analytics teams and various departments to drive an innovative data product strategy, encouraging broad usage and leveraging the full capabilities of self-serviced data products. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in modern data delivery approaches and a proven track record of translating complex business needs into practical, impactful data product strategies and solutions.

What You'll Do

  • Oversee the strategic development, modernization, and transformation of data delivery platform for Uber's Community Operations (CommOps) division
  • Craft and execute detailed data delivery strategies, ensuring they integrate seamlessly with Uber's broader goals and cater to specific user needs.
  • In partnership with data engineers, design sophisticated data architectures and solutions, enhancing self-service access and consumption of diverse data products across the organization
  • Collaborate closely with data engineers to ensure a unified approach to the design and implementation of data delivery infrastructures
  • Engage with analytics and various cross-functional teams to cultivate an innovative approach to data product strategy, ensuring alignment and synergy
  • Lead the adoption of autonomous data delivery mechanisms, maximizing the potential of data products for internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain a deep understanding of modern data delivery strategies, frameworks, and solutions, continuously enhancing Uber's data practice
  • Maintain strong stakeholder relationships, ensuring transparent communication and alignment on data delivery projects while effectively addressing their requirements and feedback
  • Direct and support a team of data analysts, fostering their professional growth and encouraging innovation to enhance data product foundation and delivery

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or Information Technology or related field
  • Over 7 years of experience in the field of data delivery strategy and solutions, encompassing the design of data marts, aggregate tables, and semantic layers
  • Skilled in the fundamentals and innovative practices of modern data product design and architecture
  • Proficient with advanced SQL queries
  • Experienced in data solution design with Data Analytics toolsets and technologies, including but not limited to BigQuery, on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leadership
  • Experience in people management in a fast paced work environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands on experience designing roadmap, solution architectures for self-service data delivery solution for high volume and complex data environment with thousands of users
  • Proven experience strategizing and designing modern data product architectures for autonomous data-product through semantic layer
  • Skilled in creating contemporary data marts in data warehouse / data lake
  • Proficient with semantic layer technologies like AtScale, Kyvos or equivalent
  • Knowledgeable in implementing data delivery systems using modern data platforms or marketplace solutions
  • Proven experience working in cross-functional highly matrix environments with good collaboration and communication skills
  • Enjoy of solving complex large scale data challenges with a go-getter mentality are highly preferred
  • Experience working in customer centric organizations

About the Team

Community Operations (CommOps) is the voice and face of Uber to the millions of people who rely on Uber daily, and its largest org (10k+ employees). We work across all of Uber's businesses) and are responsible for customer support, social media, sales / conversion, and safety response. We are also the Voice of the Customer to the Tech/Ops teams.

The Data Infrastructure and Strategy (DI&S) team is the central Analytics and Insights (A&I) team and responsible for building the global data foundation for all reporting and analytics for CommOps. Our projects are typically broad in scope, with tremendous opportunity to make a huge impact on the business. This role provides an opportunity to play a leadership role within the team and help shape the best in class customer support experience across all Uber data products and services globally.

For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$180,000 per year - USD$200,000 per year.
