About the Role

Insurance is a uniquely strategic function at Uber and this is a very different role than typical claims leadership. Uber is one of the largest purchasers of commercial auto insurance in the world. We have in-house actuaries, data scientists, legal and safety experts, insurance attorneys, and engineers dedicated to building and maintaining industry leading insurance programs. We are looking for a leader for our claims organization that is unlike any other.

What You'll Do

  • Responsible for crash response and claims handling strategies to ensure industry leading outcomes for Uber's US auto insurance program, one of the largest commercial auto placements in the world.
  • Build executive relationships with our insurance carriers and industry experts. Act as an industry thought leader, staying on the cutting edge of emerging issues and claims technology.
  • Be a strong advocate for tort reform, including strategic contributions to industry coalitions and Uber's public policy initiatives.
  • Engage with senior leadership at Uber to champion innovative and data driven claims initiatives. There is no idea too big.
  • Present to executive level leadership on insurance operational results, claims trends, and associated financial impacts.
  • Partner with International insurance leadership to leverage Uber's to identify areas to leverage our global claims footprint to gain operational efficiency and facilitate best-in-class career development opportunities

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferably in the field of Risk Management, Insurance, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of Insurance industry experience, leading teams of claims professionals.
  • Understanding of actuarial pricing, reserving and claims analytics. Ability to define metrics and independently monitor trends and implications for optimizing clams strategies.
  • Strong project management skills, able to manage competing priorities, and ability to own and drive projects from ideation to completion.
  • Ability to lead in a fast-paced environment and work effectively and collaboratively within Uber and in partnership with insurance carriers.
  • Experience presenting to executive leadership and influencing business strategies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated successful track record and expertise in claims operations including leading through transformational change (i.e. claims system migration, implementation of new handling philosophy)
  • Multi-discipline insurance experience (product management, underwriting, finance, legal, etc.)
  • Insurance certification(s) AIC, SCLA, CPCU or Master's degree in related field or JD
  • Well-established relationships within the claims industry and exposure to a range of disciplines including customer support, first notice of loss, claims adjudication, and litigation
  • Experience with sharing economy risks - underwriting, claims, and product development

For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$270,000 per year - USD$300,000 per year.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$270,000 per year - USD$300,000 per year.
