Position Summary:

The Vice President of Technology Operations is a strategic and operational leader responsible for overseeing the organization's IT infrastructure, systems, and service delivery functions. This executive ensures optimal performance, security, scalability, and availability of IT services while aligning operations with business objectives. The VP of Technology Operations will lead teams across infrastructure, cloud operations, network engineering, service desk, and IT support, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and reliability.

This position is open to candidates in the Seattle area. You will have a hybrid remote/in-office schedule where you will work from our casual, pet-friendly office at least 3 days a week.

What you will do:

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for all aspects of IT operations, including infrastructure, DevOps, network management, system administration, cloud services, and end-user support.
  • Develop and execute IT operational strategies that support enterprise goals while ensuring service excellence and compliance with security standards.
  • Oversee the delivery of reliable IT services across the organization, ensuring systems and networks meet performance and uptime goals.
  • Lead incident response and business continuity planning for critical IT operations.
  • Optimize service management practices including ITIL processes such as incident, change, problem, and asset management.
  • Partner with key business stakeholders to understand needs, align technology capabilities, and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Establish and manage the IT operations budget, identifying opportunities for cost optimization and efficiency.
  • Mentor, coach, and manage a high-performing IT operations team. Foster professional development, accountability, and a customer-first mindset.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, regulatory requirements (e.g., SOX, GDPR), and cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Drive automation, modernization, and adoption of emerging technologies to improve service delivery and reduce manual effort.
  • Track performance against KPIs, SLAs, and operational goals, and provide regular reporting to executive leadership.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in IT operations, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
  • Strong expertise in managing enterprise IT infrastructure (cloud and on-prem), networks, systems, and service delivery in a complex environment.
  • Experience working at a public company and highly regulated industry requiring SOX controls
  • Experience creating, implementing and testing disaster recovery plans
  • Proven track record of leading large IT teams, managing budgets, and delivering high-impact technology services.
  • Experience with Azure or AWS cloud platforms, ITSM tools, and modern infrastructure-as-service practices.
  • Strong expertise with the Microsoft suite of products including Azure Active Directory and Hybrid environments
  • Excellent understanding of cybersecurity, compliance frameworks, and risk management.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with a bias for action.
  • Executive presence with the ability to communicate complex technology issues to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Certifications:

  • ITIL Foundation or higher
  • PMP, Six Sigma, or other process improvement certifications
  • Azure, or other cloud-related certifications
  • CISSP, CISM, or other security certifications (a plus)

Compensation:

  • The pay range for this position is $190,000 - $200,000 on a full-time schedule.
  • Along with base salary, Trupanion employees may be eligible for monthly bonuses.
  • We want all employees to be invested in Trupanion's success, so we grant Restricted Stock Units to all new team members. Our new hire grants vest over 4 years.
