What You Will Do

The Computational Design Group is looking for interns to participate in engineering efforts of our Materia Computational Design platform, as an essential component of Trimble SketchUp, the world's most used 3D software.

Be part of a dynamic, small engineering team that is pursuing design, architecture and construction problems to solve using emerging technologies.
  • Contribute to the evolution of our Materia geometry cloud compute service and visual coding applications.
  • Hands-on experience with full stack technologies and agile software methodologies.
  • Participate in design, build, deliver and test components and features of the core compute engine and cloud service infrastructure.
  • Participate in collaboration with our integration partners to achieve Industry Cloud goals.
  • Participate in QA and testing of the Materia compute service and visual coding applications.
What Skills & Experience You Should Bring
  • Actively pursuing Bachelors CompSci, maths, engineering studies at a NZ educational institute.
  • Familiarity with linear algebra and geometry maths principles as they apply to 3D graphics.
  • Practical software development experience, in at least one of C#, C++, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python.
  • Experience with CAD or 3D graphics design software.
What Skills & Experience You Could Bring
  • Experience or interest in computation/parametric modelling for architecture, construction and product design.
  • Design or creation of 3D experiences using gaming, VR or AR technologies.
  • Usage of JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks such as Angular or React.
  • Working understanding of the Linux environment and platform.
  • Familiarity with AWS and/or Azure Cloud services.
  • Technical documentation authoring.
  • Software testing or QA experience, working understanding of github or similar source control systems.
  • Interest in STEM-oriented education and research.
About the Computational Design Group

Trimble's Computational Design Group is a Wellington-based team of product designers and engineers focusing on developing tools and technologies centered around parametric 3D design and computational modeling.

The team is responsible for the Materia Computational Design service, a contributing technology to Trimble's wider Industry Cloud Platform, which seeks to integrate products, tools, workflows and technologies across design disciplines in construction, geospatial, transport, agriculture and other industry sectors.
