Toyota is seeking a passionate and highly motivated Thermal Systems and Component Senior Design Engineer to join our R&D team. In this role, you'll lead the design and development of vehicle thermal systems and component parts, ensuring superior performance, cost efficiency, and quality across engine compartment and cabin applications.
Reporting to the Senior Manager - R&D, the person in this role will be essential to the team's objective to design parts that support the future of mobility for all.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Senior Engineer, you will:
- Lead a small group in designing and developing thermal system component parts, coordinating activities to deliver high-quality results on schedule.
- Manage open issues, schedules, and project targets, while presenting updates to management and executives (Ho Ren So).
- Create and modify development planning structures, 3D models, and 2D drawings in CATIA, working independently or by guiding supplier engineers/CAD modelers.
- Drive risk management and issue resolution through cross-functional collaboration with design, performance, production, and supplier teams.
- Benchmark, analyze, and solve complex technical challenges in design, evaluation, and production.
- Coach team members on Toyota core knowledge, processes, and best practices.
- Lead improvement initiatives to strengthen processes, group operations, and team morale.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- This position requires driving. A motor vehicle record acceptable by company standards is required.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited program.
- 6+ years thermal part or system design experience (tooling, manufacturing process, evaluation, material properties).
- 4+ years independent CAD experience (planning sections, 3D part models, 2D drawings).
- 2+ years experience leading CAD modelers/suppliers.
- 6+ years solving design issues through root cause analysis and countermeasure development.
- 6+ years negotiating requirements with downstream engineering and suppliers.
- Full development project design experience (K4 through 1A).
- Completion of Toyota Business Practices (TBP).
- Flexibility to work overtime (10-20%) as needed.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
Added bonus if you have
- Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering.
- Design experience in heat exchangers, electric motors, hoses, engine or interior components, or fluid dynamics.
- Thermal controls/software parameter/electrical evaluation experience.
- CATIA V5 or 3DExperience expertise (independent and/or supplier-led).
- Hands-on evaluation experience in thermal components/systems.
- Knowledge of automotive thermal or HVAC regulations.
- Completion of TBP, Six Sigma, or other business problem-solving methodologies.
