Who we're looking for

Toyota's Stamping Department is looking for a passionate and highly-motivated Stamping Hem Engineer.

The primary responsibility of this role is to lead the development and manufacturing of new high quality stamping hem equipment, from equipment & die spec development, through handover to the NAMC's(North American Manufacturing Company) for production.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the person in this role will support the Stamping department's objective to achieve new model process, RJ (Ryohin Jyoken - necessary conditions) completion, equipment installation & final vehicle quality level for all new stamping hem equipment.

What you'll be doing

  • Gather and evaluate data from the output of tooling trials to implement DMR's (Die Modification Requests) to countermeasure die issues and achieve quality KPI's.

    • Accuracy: Review CMM measurement reports of the stamped panels / hemmed sub-assemblies and give directions for die changes to meet both nominal and functional panel / sub-assembly accuracy requirements.
    • Surface Quality: Visually detect surface quality imperfections in stamped panels or sub-assemblies and give direction for die improvements.
    • Productivity: Work with NAMC Pilot teams to meet necessary production cycle time requirements.
    • Work closely with Seibi Technicians, Die Design, Die Face, & Pugi Engineers to promote the achievement of project KPIs.
    • Work with team members across organizations (Bodyweld, QE, Paint, Assembly, etc.) and outside shops to gather accurate information for decision-making.
  • Die Procurement: Review and create die spec sheets. Review DE data and provide feedback for die design and expectation data.
  • Equipment Procurement: Review and create equipment spec for project use. Coordinate with vendors and Bodyweld PE on equipment installation requirements.
  • Troubleshooting: Work with other stamping groups, vendors and NAMC members to close punchlist items for the hem equipment and dies. Provide installation manuals for construction members, support TMC on equipment installations and provide feedback.
  • Lead meetings with Vendors on a weekly basis to discuss hem equipment support, part orders, or provide feedback on equipment issues from pre-production trials.
  • Develop detailed hourly schedule for weekend activity and review it with the parties involved.
  • After hem equipment installations and hem die trials, create and share hem die progress reports at the end of shift.
  • Update assigned hem equipment budget tracking sheet, after part orders, DMR's, or vendor support activity.
  • Prepare presentations to review die, equipment, and S/A status at each project milestone or quality gate.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a technical discipline or equivalent related work experience
  • Strong Microsoft Office knowledge including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Technical writing experience
  • Must be able to work weekends and shutdowns to support as needed.
  • Willingness to travel to locations other than Kentucky (includes international travel)
  • Ability to work overtime up to 25% to meet tight project schedules.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%, sometimes on very short notice, for several consecutive days.

Added bonus if you have

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • Stamping die process creation experience
  • Stamping (die structure/function, materials, and equipment) experience.
  • Toyota Equipment, Stamping, Hem, or Bodyweld experience.
  • Training and experience in 3D CAD skills. (CATIA, XVL, Polyworks, etc.).
  • Experience analyzing data from contact and non-contact measurement systems.
  • TBP (Toyota Business Process) panel completion
