Who we're looking for
Toyota's Automated & Electronics Evaluation (AEE2) Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated ADAS Evaluation Engineer.

The primary responsibility of this role is to define performance requirements and evaluate current and future Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This includes preparing vehicles and test equipment, conducting evaluation drives, and analyzing collected data to ensure Toyota's automated systems meet customer expectations.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, the person in this role will support the AEE2 Department's mission to deliver safe, innovative, and customer-focused mobility solutions through rigorous testing and continuous improvement.

What you'll be doing
As an ADAS Evaluation Engineer in our Automated Performance and Applications Department (APAD), you'll help bring Toyota's next-generation driving technologies to market. You'll work hands-on with vehicles, collaborate across teams, and use data to shape the future of mobility.

  • Evaluate performance of ADS/ADAS systems in collaboration with internal stakeholders and Tier-1 suppliers
  • Conduct hands-on vehicle evaluations in closed-track, public-road, and simulated environments
  • Configure, modify, and troubleshoot test vehicles, sensors, and data acquisition systems
  • Develop and standardize evaluation processes, protocols, test cases, and check sheets
  • Champion customer needs using voice-of-customer data, driving environments, and competitor benchmarking
  • Lead function performance planning, execution, and KPI monitoring for decision-making
  • Present clear, data-driven reports using logical visual storytelling
  • Develop software tools to automate data collection, analysis, simulation, and validation
  • Propose feature improvements based on usability and acceptance data
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to optimize technology and resource use
  • Mentor less experienced engineers in technical and project management skills

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field
  • 5+ years of experience with ADS/ADAS sensors and controls (e.g., camera, radar, sonar, lidar)
  • 5+ years of experience developing evaluation methods and KPIs
  • 4+ years of experience conducting public road and closed course evaluations
  • 1+ year of experience with simulated verification of vehicle control systems
  • 3+ years of experience leading evaluation, tuning, and benchmarking of automated features
  • 3+ years of experience with OBD and CAN tools, diagnostics, and sensor setup
  • At least 3 years of experience developing post-processing software for test data analysis
  • 3+ years of experience coding in Python, C++, MATLAB, or similar languages
  • At least 2 years of experience using shared code repositories (e.g., Git, SVN)
  • 3+ years of experience creating standardized processes for emerging technologies
  • Willingness to work overtime (~25% per week)
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (~25%)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license

Added Bonus If You Have

  • Master's degree in a related technical field
  • Experience with vehicle evaluation and tuning
  • Experience modifying or creating new KPIs for ADS/ADAS evaluation
  • Experience in vehicle development at Toyota or Tier-1 Toyota suppliers
  • Working knowledge of radar, camera, and sonar systems in automotive applications
  • Experience with OBD and CAN tools for diagnostics and testing
  • Experience installing and troubleshooting data acquisition systems (e.g., CANoe, Vbox, RTK)
  • Experience with continuous integration tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jenkins)
  • Experience using cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) for automated data analysis
  • Experience in electronics hardware development and vehicle integration
  • Experience using MATLAB, SIMULINK, PYTHON, and/or C++
  • Experience designing ADS technologies such as mapping, localization, path planning, or controls
