Who we're looking for
Toyota's Battery Production Engineering department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Senior Engineer to work in the implementation team.
This position's main responsibility is production preparation and new model launch of Electrical Vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing equipment.
This position will be located at Toyota Battery Motor North Carolina (TBMNC) in Liberty, North Carolina, and report to an Engineering Manager for EV Cell Manufacturing.
What you'll be doing
- In-alignment with the master plan of each line, develop an installation & trials schedule for your shop that includes all critical milestones i.e. vendor buy off, shipping, commissioning, production/maintenance training & confirmation trials.
- Prepare and present bid pack for equipment installed to general contractors. Review bids and award work considering factors like cost, manpower, skill and commitment to meet schedule.
- Lead construction / battery equipment installation including schedule development, contractors and vendor coordination, safety audits and address day to day challenges.
- Provide frequent updates regarding the status of the project to senior management including executive level update on overall project status, safety, schedule and critical activities in daily status check meeting.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure all aspects of the project are planned and executed in a safe and timely manner. Engage Production, Quality and Maintenance teams to get their perspective on relevant issues and develop one voice with all stakeholders.
- Mentor co-ops and engineers to help them grow both technically and individually. Challenge them to apply their skills in solving complex problems related to the project.
- Develop reflections document from events that caused delays in project, safety hazards etc. and share with cross functional teams to learn and improve collectively as a team.
- Lead project engineers, create assignments and structures guiding them through the actions needed to achieve project KPIs.
- Support skill development of engineering team to achieve project milestones.
What you bring
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering or a similar technical field, or 10+ years of equivalent experience in manufacturing.
- Minimum of 5 or more years of experience in Production Preparation or Manufacturing, with a focus on executing high production volume capital projects from initial planning to start of production.
- 3 years or more of proven experience in managing large capital projects over $10M, including creating and maintaining project schedules, and tracking milestones from project creation to completion.
- Experience in creating and implementing processes in a manufacturing environment, including: takt time studies, line balancing and cycle time reduction.
- 3 or more years of experience using AutoCAD or similar 2D drafting software for designing and reviewing machine/structural drawings.
- Exceptional leadership, project-management and team-building skills to drive the completion of initiatives across different functions.
- Experience with lock out procedures, energy isolation, and safety incident investigation and reporting.
- Completed OSHA 10.
- Experience driving consensus across multiple departments.
- Willingness to travel for business, both domestically and internationally, up to 25%.
- Ability to work weekends and during shutdown periods (e.g., July and December holidays) as needed.
Added bonus if you have
- Completion of TBP through panel, demonstrating a strong understanding of Toyota's operational methodologies and principles.
- An advanced degree, such as a Master's in Engineering or an MBA, or 10+ years of relevant automotive experience.
- Proven experience in Quality Assurance with the ability to identify and analyze root causes of chronic problems, leading to effective solutions and process improvements.

- Experience in the manufacturing of battery cells or working in a chemical facility, showcasing knowledge of industry-specific processes and safety standards.
- Experience in Toyota Production Engineering, including familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices.
- At least 2 years of experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), including: proficiency in reading and editing PLC logic and the ability to investigate and troubleshoot PLC-related issues effectively.
- JKK completion.
