Toyota's Prototype Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Rapid Prototype (RP) Shop Technician.

Reporting to the RP shop supervisor, the primary responsibility of this role is to support the Rapid Prototype creation process within R&D, for Toyota North America Product Development and Vehicle Evaluation.

What you'll be doing

  • Ensure Prototype RP part Quality and Delivery will meet or exceed customer requirements.
  • Operate and maintain SLA, SLS, FDM, and MJM 3D Printing equipment.
  • Initial responsibility will be centered on RP part Production and finishing and process Quality Assurance. Toyota Safety Management System participation is a must.
  • Solve problems and create Kaizen to support Safety, Quality, Productivity KPIs.
  • Flexibility and commitment to above responsibilities will require up to 30% overtime at peak times.
  • Cyclical nature of Prototype Production will require broad flexibility of work assignments such as:

    • Fabricate functional parts, appearance models, and scale models.
    • Finishing for body repair or RP class 'A' appearance.
    • Prototype assembly as well as other special projects.
  • Take initiative, problem-solve and Kaizen while working effectively with the entire R&D team.
  • Follow standardized work and safety protocols as well as train new members.
  • Ability to work both independently, on small teams, and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exhibit continuous commitment to the customer and the Toyota Way.
  • Flexibility of assignments and willingness to support in all functional roles as well as accommodate daily priority changes (as needed).

What you bring

  • Trade school education AND/OR equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience in vehicle body work & paint skills.
  • Silicon mold making experience from raw master to finished urethane parts.
  • Ability to sand/finish resin parts to desired finish level. Fix minor imperfections (sand and rub).
  • Ability to judge surface and coating finish versus boundary sample.
  • Demonstrated experience with JIG or Fixture design and adjustment.
  • Fundamental paint knowledge and skills (e.g., mixing paint, setting up paint gun, spray applications, etc.).
  • Self-starter with ability to plan, design, and fabricate Silicon molds.
  • Willingness to work overtime as required (up to 10 hours/week).
  • Exposure to common allergens such as latex, powder nylon, aerosols and/or other workplace chemicals may occur.
  • Occasionally, the incumbent must be able to lift or carry up to 35 kg or 77 pounds as part of the essential job functions.

Added bonus if you have

  • Experience working on Toyota vehicle programs.
  • Experience with conflict resolution and leading/motivating groups.
  • Passion for cars, motorcycles, trucks, and/or recreational vehicles.
  • Interest for scale model making, model railroading, model rocketry, etc.
  • Experience in Toyota Development Cycles - design engineering/evaluation engineering, supplier management, vehicle development scheduling or project leadership.
