The primary responsibility of this role is Prototype Body Welding and Paint process within R&D.

Reporting to the Weld and Paint Supervisor, the person in this role will support the Vehicle Prototype department's objective to support Toyota North America Product Development and Vehicle Evaluation.

What you'll be doing

  • Prototype Vehicle Sealer/Damp coat - ensure Prototype Vehicle Quality and Delivery will meet or exceed customer requirements.
  • Apply automotive body seam sealer, damp coat and underbody coating to meet engineering drawings, vehicle build specifications, and quality standards.
  • Initial responsibility will be centered around Prototype Production CV build Operation Plan for Sealer and then rotate across all Paint stations and process.
  • Toyota Safety Management System participation.
  • Flexibility and commitment to the above responsibilities will require up to 30% overtime at peak times.
  • The cyclical nature of Prototype Production will require broad flexibility of work assignments and willingness to support other functions outside of the Paint/Sealer teams.
  • Occasional fabrication of components and vehicle modification.
  • CNC support as needed.
  • Support for prototype vehicle assembly and special marketing vehicle projects.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the customer - embrace flexibility of assignment and willingness to support in all functional roles.

What you bring

  • Hands-on experience in the application of damp coat seam sealers and underbody coatings (UBC), ensuring application meets Toyota standards.
  • Trade School Education AND/OR Work Equivalent experience.
  • Must exhibit flexibility and be willing to adapt to help in different areas/paint stations.
  • Intermediate knowledge and experience working in an OEM prototype environment, including adherence to pre-production standards, engineering change requests, and confidential vehicle build processes.

Added bonus if you have

  • OEM paint and sealer process knowledge and experience.
  • Experience using KPIs for goal setting and process management.
  • Quality Circle or other problem-solving systems (e.g., TBP)
  • Knowledge of Toyota Safety Management System.
  • Experience in other automotive areas including but not limited to: Assembly, Rapid Prototype, etc.
