Toyota's Paint Pilot Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Engineer.

The primary responsibility of this role is to support the Paint Pilot Team across both shops for both minor and major future projects located at TMMI Paint.

Reporting to the Pilot Manager, the person in this role will support the Paint department's objective to prepare the Paint Shop for future equipment, raw material, and vehicle structural changes needed to stay competitive in the automotive industry.

This position is based in Princeton, IN. The selected candidate will be expected to reside within commutable distance of this location.

What you'll be doing

  • Assigned the minor model engineering lead coordinating year over year changepoints.
  • Work with existing Pilot team consisting of TMs, TLs, and GL to support changepoints.
  • Utilize North American Paint Operating Plan to develop strategy and plans to execute Paint shop specific changes and model initiatives to the floor.
  • Working with both NA design and Japanese design groups to review 3d concepts and updated design specifications and develop action plan to execute within the model year.
  • Support color selection negotiations and communicating manufacturing capabilities
  • Coordinate trial activities in preparation of changepoints to meet TMMI gated management milestones.
  • Working with outside groups within TMMI and TMNA on equipment refurbishment/retrofit and future reborn activities.
  • Supporting production through special activity projects as required to improve safety, quality, productivity or cost.

What you bring

  • Clear understanding of the Roles and Responsibilities of an engineer working in a paint process environment and project management as it applies to automotive paint manufacturing.
  • Provide direction on project management, and process production support on Safety, Quality and productivity issues.
  • Motivate team in achieving launch objectives along with a clear understanding of shop initiatives and KPI Targets.
  • Experience working with internal shops (ex. Quality Engineering, Weld, and Assembly) to achieve cross shop initiatives.
  • Engineering support, as needed, with projects and equipment, and key initiatives for improving operational availability
  • Experience in implementation of project initiatives set up through capital investments.
  • Has led a project that improved safety, quality or productivity issues.
  • Ability and willingness to domestic travel up to 25%
  • OT/Holidays/Shutdowns as needed

Added bonus if you have

  • Current or previous new model introduction experience in any automotive shop (ex. Assy, Weld, Paint, etc...)
  • 2-4 year degree from an accredited institution
  • Experience with Paint delivery systems including sealer, dampening coat, cavity wax, topcoat 2K and paint circ systems.
  • Experience leading shop wide trials and working with production and maintenance group leads to develop and execute a plan.
  • Understanding of Maintenance Goals and objectives. Specifically in the areas of shop Refurbishment as new model changes add or modify existing equipment used in production.
