WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Toyota's OneTech Manufacturing Tech Services Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated MES Engineer.

The primary responsibility of this role is to serve as the on-site central point of contact for support of the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) applications. This includes providing database support and ensuring system stability and reliability.

The role also involves managing projects while maintaining strong, strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, including TBMNC Production Engineering (PE), TBMNC Controls, TMNA Controls, and production support teams.

This position is based at the Toyota Battery Manufacturing Plant in Liberty, NC. The selected candidate will be expected to reside within a commutable distance of this location.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Lead collaboration with Manufacturing Shops, Production Engineering, Quality, and ITX stakeholders to thoroughly understand current business processes and requirements for the TBMNC MES.
  • Collaborate and align with ITX Digital Product & Services/Digital Product Engineering teams to develop then implement the product life cycle roadmap.
  • Proactively manage and eliminate technical debt relating to the TBMNC MES. Lead the activities to identify, prioritize, plan, and implement improvement activities to modernize the TBMNC MES.
  • Oversee the daily activities of the onsite MES contract staff and provide direction consistent with the overall team objectives.
  • Provide technical assistance for the TBMNC MES applications and database when needed.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience supporting MES or similar manufacturing IT systems
  • Experience in diagnosing and resolving technical issues related to MES applications and databases
  • Familiarity with manufacturing operations and production processes
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and relational database management systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle)
  • Experience with specific MES platforms (e.g., Ignition, Wonderware, Rockwell FactoryTalk, etc.)
  • Knowledge of scripting or automation tools (e.g., Python, PowerShell, or VBA)
  • Understanding of network architecture and IT infrastructure in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with system integration, middleware, or APIs connecting MES to ERP systems
  • Prior experience working in automotive or high-volume manufacturing environments
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills
  • Ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and teams simultaneously

ADDED BONUS IF YOU HAVE

  • Experience in automotive or battery manufacturing
  • Knowledge of Siemens OpCenter Foundation, Quality, or Logistics modules
  • Familiarity with Mendix low-code application development
  • Experience working in hybrid agile/waterfall environments
