Toyota's Operations Management Development Division (OMDD) is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Manager to join our team in supporting Toyota's North American Operations as we continue our path of Continuous Improvement.

OMDD is the very same department that Taiichi Ohno created to carry out his vision of the world-renowned Toyota Production System. Opportunities abound in working collaboratively with the North American Manufacturing Centers (NAMC's) and select suppliers because the kaizen cycle never ends!

The primary responsibility of this role is to work with project companies (Internal or External to Toyota) to execute tactical plans, maintain daily project schedules and evaluate results while implementing TPS (Toyota Production System). This position will provide opportunities to work on the shop floor at project sites with the production members as well as top management.

The person in this role will support OMDD departmental objectives to identify and eliminate waste in order to reduce lead time and improve productivity. In addition, this person will develop by applying TPS basic thinking and tools to highlight problems and use logical problem-solving steps while supporting the development of others involved in the activity.

What you'll be doing

  • Develop your capabilities in TPS basic thinking and the use of TPS tools to visualize the shop floor condition
  • Develop and manage project assignments with other members to achieve activity targets
  • Collaborate with your supervisor to establish clear KPI targets and strategies
  • Develop your capabilities in TPS basic thinking and the use of TPS tools to visualize the shop floor condition
  • Be responsible for coaching members in TPS basic thinking and know-how within own group as well as cross-functional groups
  • Utilize own project summaries and development points to share TPS with other project members and make presentations to OMDD members and executives
  • Assure sustainment of activity improvements as the new standard
  • Develop yourself to sustain long-term development of the OMDD organization to meet Toyota needs through Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) network, manufacturing plants and North America general industry

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Experience working in a direct or support role for manufacturing
  • Management experience in a manufacturing or production environment with responsibility for direct reports
  • Experience leading and implementing Continuous Improvement activities on the shop floor utilizing Toyota Production System (TPS) / kaizen improvement methods
  • Ability and willingness to travel 75%

Added bonus if you have

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Operations Management.
  • Experience creating an improvement strategy in a leadership role for a shop floor improvement activity.
  • Experience visualizing processes utilizing Material and Information Flow Chart / Value Stream Mapping.
  • Experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.
