Toyota's Integrated Vehicle Systems Functional & Lighting Design Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Engineer.

The primary responsibility of this role is to support the design and development of mechatronic parts and systems that enhance vehicle functionality and user experience. You'll be involved in the full lifecycle of vehicle projects-from concept and design to validation and launch-making a direct impact on the quality and innovation of Toyota's products.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, the person in this role will support the department's mission to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and technically sound solutions that drive Toyota's leadership in mobility.
What you'll be doing
You'll be at the heart of Toyota's vehicle development process, collaborating with global teams and suppliers to bring innovative designs to life. Success in this role means delivering reliable, stylish, and functional mechatronic systems that meet Toyota's high standards.
- Coordinate the design and development of functional (mechatronic) parts for new and existing vehicle programs
- Lead projects from concept through launch, solving technical challenges along the way
- Plan part structures using target setting, packaging studies, and style feasibility analysis
- Execute 2D and 3D CAD designs using CATIA, either independently or by guiding suppliers and CAD modelers
- Participate in evaluation and manufacturing activities at domestic and international event locations
- Continuously improve design quality and cost for vehicles in production
- Provide weekly updates to management and stakeholders
- Contribute to cross-functional collaboration and perform other duties as assigned
What You Bring
We're looking for someone with a strong engineering foundation and a passion for automotive innovation. These qualifications will set you up for success:
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
- 2+ years of engineering experience in a professional setting (internship, full-time, or engineering organization such as FSAE)
- 1+ year of experience using CAD systems
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with suppliers and global teams
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Willingness to work overtime (~25% per week)
- Availability to work onsite 4-5 days per week in York
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to ~25%)
Added Bonus If You Have
These qualifications aren't required, but they'll help you hit the ground running and make an even greater impact:
- 2+ years of automotive engineering design experience
- 2+ years of experience in Automotive Exteriors, Lighting, Electronics, or Mechatronics
- 2+ years of experience using CATIA V5
- 2+ years of project management experience, including supplier coordination
- 2+ years of leadership experience in an engineering environment
