Who we're looking for

Toyota's IT Risk Department is looking for a passionate and highly-motivated Business Domain Owner - Risk, Legal, Compliance & Learning Systems (RLCLS).

The primary responsibility of this role is to drive the strategic direction of the RLCLS domain by aligning business, technology and data strategies in the areas of Risk, Legal, Compliance, Learning and Knowledge Management.

Reporting to the Group Manager, IT Risk, the person in this role will work with various stakeholder groups throughout the business to develop, track and execute on key business initiatives (also known as OKRs) with a focus on measurable improvement in business metrics/outcomes. This role acts as the "CEO" of the domain leading all domain-level agile ceremonies and representing the domain in the Quarterly Business Reviews.

What you'll be doing

  • Domain Prioritization, OKR Delivery and Product Ownership - The BDO, RLCLS works with business leaders in key areas to understand pain points, risks and opportunities to bring additional business value through technology delivery. These are used in the development of key strategic and compliance initiatives (OKRs). The BDO works with domain leaders across all domains to align prioritization of RLCLS domain initiatives with enterprise objectives. After OKRs are developed, the BDO works with other domain leaders and the Product Owners (who are matrix reports of the BDO) to develop factory/product roadmaps and ensure any risks or impediments are addressed and OKR delivery stays on track. Additionally, the BDO works with business leaders, Enterprise Architecture and Product Owners to develop a future product vision and target state to ensure roadmaps are aligned with Enterprise standards and best practices.


  • Executive & Stakeholder Alignment - The BDO, RLCLS regularly meets with key Executives and senior leaders to provide key updates on domain projects (including escalating any risks/impediments) and ensure continued alignment between business and domain on key priorities. Key relationships include the Chief Risk Officer, the Chief Legal, Compliance and Administrative Officer and the Vice President of Service Operations, as well as senior leaders in their organizations.


  • Domain Management and Administration - Responsibilities in this area include overseeing the spend for all RLCLS domain initiatives to ensure that spend stays within budget and any anticipated over- or underspend is properly escalated. This includes spend within the RLCLS domain as well as spend incurred by other domains who do work in support of RLCLS domain initiatives. Other domain administration responsibilities include overseeing the agile health of the domain by reviewing key metrics (factory velocity, backlog readiness, etc.), managing Epics and Features in JIRA, ensuring appropriateness of "Business as Usual" work (BAU), tracking/updating Business Cases for domain OKRs, and working with other domains to resolve dependencies.


  • Enterprise Risk Management and Data & Technology Risk Subcommittee facilitation and oversight - Responsibilities include ensuring proper governance, quality assurance, and 2nd line of defense oversight for our Enterprise Risk data in our Governance, Risk and Compliance platform, Archer as well as the Data and Technology (D&T) Risk Subcommittee where the CRO is the Executive Sponsor. Other responsibilities include ensuring that the Data & Technology Risk Subcommittee meets all obligations in the charter and that proper governance is followed for all items requiring subcommittee and ERC approval. The BDO, RLCLS is also responsible for working with the 1st and 2nd line Risk groups to mature the Technology risk assessment framework.

Key Responsibilities of all Business Domain Owners:

  • Drive the strategic direction of a business domain and align business and technology strategies
  • Own delivery of domain OKRs, roadmap design and execution, and release planning
  • Work with stakeholders across the organization to ensure factories are maximizing return on investment
  • Manage cross-functional teams and domain strategies
  • Lead the design of end-to-end business processes
  • Communicate and track performance and agile health of the Domain that focuses on business value realization through product lifecycle
  • Lead QBR for domain
  • Communicate domain's objectives, strategies, and expectations with Senior Executives
  • Partner with TDO,DDO, DOO, and DRL to ensure quality delivery
  • Collaborate with CDO, CIO, COO, domain leadership, and FP&A to manage budget for domain
  • Own strategic decisions related to visions, goals, and objectives of the business domain
  • Design business processes, overall roadmap, prioritization, and release planning
  • Provide direction, challenge thinking, guide decision-making, and approve priorities

What you bring

  • Four-Year College Degree (BA or BS)
  • 10 years or more of relevant work experience (in similar field and/or industry)
  • 5 years or more experience leading teams to execute large scale projects
  • 5 years or more experience with enterprise risk management
  • 5 years or more experience with technology delivery solutions
  • 5 years or more experience in Agile methodology
