Who we're looking for
Toyota's Enterprise Artificial Intelligence Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Artificial Intelligence Applications Engineer.
The primary responsibility of this role is to research and develop systems and platforms for enabling the use of Generative AI at Toyota Motors North America.
Reporting to the Principal AI Engineer, the person in this role will support the Enterprise Artificial Intelligence department's objective to enable new uses of Generative AI for Toyota Motors North America.
What you'll be doing :
- Develop and implement the strategic vision for AI applications within Toyota, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and driving transformative innovation across multiple business units.
- Lead and inspire cross-functional teams in the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge AI solutions, guaranteeing that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with overarching business goals.
- Provide expert technical guidance in machine learning, deep learning, and advanced data analytics, ensuring adherence to best practices while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
- Collaborate closely with senior leadership, product managers, and key stakeholders to identify high-impact AI opportunities, define comprehensive project requirements, and effectively communicate progress and outcomes.
- Oversee resource allocation, including budget management and team assignments, to optimize productivity and ensure the successful achievement of project milestones.
- Mentor and cultivate a high-performing team of AI engineers, promoting professional development and career growth through targeted training, performance feedback, and leadership opportunities.
- Stay at the forefront of industry trends and emerging technologies in AI, driving research initiatives that position Toyota as a leader in AI applications and solutions.
- Identify and assess potential risks associated with AI projects, implementing robust mitigation strategies to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and ethical considerations.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for AI initiatives, leveraging data-driven insights to inform strategic decision-making and enhance project outcomes.
- Foster seamless collaboration between AI teams and other departments (e.g., IT, operations, marketing) to ensure the effective integration of AI solutions into existing processes and systems, driving organizational efficiency and innovation.
What you bring
- Bachelor's or similar education in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field.
- Experience in AI engineering, with a proven track record of researching complex AI projects from conception to deployment.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++. Solid understanding of machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
- Proven track record of successfully working in cross-functional teams in an Agile environment, delivering complex AI products from concept to market.
- Understanding of machine learning and AI technologies, including familiarity with frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar.

- Experience in market research and competitive analysis, with a keen ability to identify trends and customer needs that drive product innovation.
- Experience with data processing tools and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor technical teams, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Experience in Agile methodologies and project management tools (e.g., Jira, Trello) to effectively manage project timelines and deliverables.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a data-driven mindset, capable of analyzing complex datasets to derive actionable insights.
- Familiarity with AI applications in the automotive industry or related fields, including autonomous systems, predictive maintenance, and customer experience enhancement.
- Relevant certifications in AI, machine learning, or project management (e.g., AWS Certified Machine Learning, PMP) are a plus.
- Understanding of ethical considerations and regulatory requirements related to AI technologies.
