A Day in the Life:
POSITION OVERVIEW
The ideal candidate is a highly analytical and experienced professional with exceptional organizational and prioritization skills, complemented by strong logistics technical expertise in Japan. This individual must be business-savvy, service-oriented, and possess excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. They should thrive in a cross-cultural, fast paced environment, providing vision, guidance, and accountability to team members while fostering a culture of collaboration and support.
This role oversees inbound logistics from regional hub to Japan, importation and associated trade compliance areas, 3PL warehouse operations and domestic transportation for both Retail and E-commerce channels. The position reports directly to the Country President and Regional Functional Lead, while managing a team of 3 direct reports in Japan.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Logistics & Distribution Operations
- Manage distribution and fulfillment activities for merchandise and non-merchandise across all retail and e-Commerce channels for Japan
- Outbound transport management, including but not limited to for merchandise products going to retail stores or direct to consumers, ad-hoc event venues, non-merchandise or POSMs materials to specific sites as required
- Drive outsourced partners to ensure product master are translated, and classified appropriately into local languages, ensures product ticketing in DC are complying to regulatory requirements
- Manage VAS programs based on business requirements as needed (e.g. price changes, retail packaging)
- Drive the team and 3PL partners to ensure day-to-day services level meets or exceeds Tory Burch Japan's required standards to create best customer experiences. Ensures operating capacity meets daily demand and supports future business growth
- Pro-actively partner with business stakeholders, digest information and transform into actionable on labor, DC capacity planning or local inventory management, provide effective feedback supported by data to help the business to make informed decisions or adjustments
- Support or manage quality assurances or repair programs as needed
- Develop, implement, and maintain warehouse protocols and standard operating procedures with 3PL partners, conduct regular reviews to ensure costing, reporting and SLAs are in alignment with required levels
- Inventory control - drive 3PL partners to ensure cycle counts are conducted as agreed schedule and is in alignment with Tory Burch compliance procedures, ensure inventory record accuracy. Manage defective or damage products and associated write-off/ destruction process on periodic basis
Import Export and Trade Compliance
- Responsible for ensuring the inbound merchandise flow from regional hub into Japan DC is within business required service lead-times. Actively address any issues from transport partners, provide data visibility and inform business partners where exception management is required
- On needs basis, support regional partners to bring store construction/ visual merchandising items into Japan
- Conduct regular reviews and structure reports to monitor freight forwarder performances, proactively address lead-time performances and identify improvement solutions
- Manage 3PL partner to timely classify HS code for products to be imported into Japan, support and partner regional trade compliance function to ensure products are correctly classified, SAP records being accurately maintained and updated as regulation changes
- Manage Tariff Quota for TBJ, which includes but not limited to partnering with business functions to obtain forecasts for TQ application, monitor TQ usage regularly, manage the application of TQ with METI directly and manage the extension as needed
- Manage Japan specific local trade compliance subjects in partnership with regional or global trade compliance team e.g. customs audit, handling METI enquiries
Project Management & Operational Excellence
- Lead implementation and change management of business or functional strategic projects and ensures seamless transition.
- Master TBJ logistics and have good understanding to the company's business process. Partner closely with cross functional teams including, but not limited to merchandising and planning, retail, e-Commerce, finance, IT to identify process or efficiency bottlenecks and improvement opportunities
- Drive operational excellence through iterative innovation, data analytics and making data transparent to enable informed decisions
Others
- Support retail organization on ad-hoc events, e.g. Friends and Family sale, pop-up events, store openings or closures with potential on-site support as needed
- Support sustainability initiates and drive greener
- Coordinate and support Quality Assurance programs with 3PLs and assist in reporting to Quality team in regional office
- Budgeting responsibilities in partnership with local/ regional planning and finance
To Land This Role:
EDUCATION & PRIOR EXPERIENCE NEEDED
- Degree holder, preferably in supply chain management or a quantitative based discipline
- 10-15 years of relevant experience in logistics or supply chain, experience in fashion/ retail is preferred
- Experience in managing 3PL relationships for warehousing and domestic transport partners
- Good command of written & spoken Japanese and English
- Proficient in MS Office applications, especially in MS Excel
- Experience working with SAP/SAP S4 a bonus
- Commercial minded, with strong leadership ability to manage up, across and bridge strategic direction into practical execution roadmap for work level
