A Day in the Life:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Omnichannel Merchandise Strategy & Execution
- Develop and implement channel-specific merchandise strategies (boutiques, department stores, e-com, social commerce) to maximize penetration and profitability.
- Lead integrated range planning for Mainland China, ensuring alignment with global brand direction while localizing assortments for channel-specific consumer behaviors.
- Optimize inventory flow and allocation across channels using sell-through data, demand forecasting, and markdown analytics to minimize markdowns and maximize full-price sell-through.
- Be the product voice of China, sharing competitor trends in the market with the HQ team to campaign for product needs and assortments
- Pioneer new channel opportunities (e.g., live commerce, gamified retail) through competitive benchmarking and trend analysis.
- Establish cross-channel performance KPIs (AUR, STR%, UPT, ABC ,MOC, etc) and lead quarterly business reviews with Finance/Retail.
- Partner with US Buying to adapt global collections for China's channel landscape, ensuring relevance and exclusivity per channel.
- Drive pricing architecture (MSRP, promotions) consistency across channels while protecting brand equity.
2. Cross-Functional Leadership & Influence
- Strategic Influence with Global HQ: Serve as the primary ambassador for the China business at headquarters. Build compelling, data-backed business cases to influence global product assortment, design choices, and allocation strategies to better serve the Chinese market.
- Orchestrate E-Commerce Alignment: Partner directly with the E-Commerce Director to align product launch calendars, assortment depth, and storytelling with digital marketing campaigns, live-streaming schedules, and KOL/KOC collaborations.
- Integrate with Marketing & CRM: Collaborate with marketing to ensure product narratives are tailored for Chinese social media platforms (Xiaohongshu, Douyin, WeChat) and leverage consumer data from the CRM team to inform assortment decisions that increase customer lifetime value (LTV).
- Optimize Operations & Supply Chain: Work closely with Supply Chain and Logistics to ensure agile and accurate product delivery, prioritizing flexibility to react to sales trends and meet the demanding timelines of EC flash sales.
2. Financial Leadership
- Own Open-to-Buy (OTB) planning per channel, ensuring alignment with financial targets and inventory health.
- Analyze channel-specific P&L drivers to optimize margin, inventory turns, and markdown efficiency.
- Forecast category growth/decline by channel and adjust buys accordingly
3. Team Leadership & Development
- Build a future-fit merchandising team with expertise in omnichannel analytics, digital commerce, and local consumer insights.
- Mentor buyers on channel-specific assortment planning, competitive intelligence, and inventory optimization.
- Develop succession plans emphasizing data-driven, channel-first merchandising capabilities.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Retail Operations to align floor sets, staff training, and VM with channel-specific strategies.
- Collaborate with E-Commerce & Marketing to ensure digital-first product storytelling and seamless channel integration.
- Work with Supply Chain/Logistics to enable agile inventory redistribution across channels.
- Align with APAC regional leaders on consistent channel strategies and assortment messaging.
EDUCATION & PRIOR EXPERIENCE NEEDED
- Degree holder in Fashion Merchandising/Business or related disciplines
- A minimum of 10 years fashion retail merchandising / buying experience, in which 5 years in managerial level
- Preference to have both luxury as well as light luxury brand experience
- Strong planning, communication and presentation skills
- Sound business acumen and retail numerical sense, detailed mind with strong analytical skills
- Excellent command in both English & Chinese
