About the Team:
We are looking for an experienced Senior Patent Attorney to work closely with internal stakeholders to conduct solid analysis, provide pragmatic advice, and handle patent mining/prosecution in the US, assisting inventors to draft invention disclosure, managing domestic and foreign outside counsel for strategic preparation and prosecution of patent applications and resonding to office communications, as well as managing the patent assets. This position provides candidates with a unique opportunity to be part of a growing team, work on cutting-edge issues in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, collaborate with colleagues on the business, engineering, compliance, security, and policy teams on patent issues critical to protecting TikTok's efforts on products and innovations, and execute and advance the patent strategy in the US. Candidates must be highly collaborative, self-motivated, strategical thinking, and intellectually curious.

Responsibilities
- Be a reliable partner for U.S. tech and business teams to discover and evaluate patentable ideas, and provide patent legal training and legal advice.
- Develop and conduct long-term (3-year+) patent portfolio development strategy and filing plans and make sure that they are aligned with financial plans, business targets and industry best practice.
- Review the patent works by outside counsels, and drive the U.S. prosecution strategy, to secure a high-quality patent portfolio.
- Handle strategic patent landscaping, and analysis projects, to help mitigate risks and prepare for defense, navigate innovation and patent strategy.
- Support cross-functional teams, to evaluate patent-related legal matters, provide pragmatic, business-focused, solution-oriented legal advice and guidance.
- Collaborate with the in-house patent functions in other jurisdictions to build global patent best practice in patent prosecution and administration.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
- Experience at a top law firm and/or in-house legal department, including extensive experience in harvesting, prosecuting, and managing patents.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
- USPTO registration, Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Excellent drafting, and organizational skills, with an ability to prioritize multiple urgent projects.
- Strategic thinker with a pragmatic, creative, risk-based approach to problem-solving.
- Experience working collaboratively and cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment, with tight turn-around times and deadlines.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, flexible, self-starting, hard-working, with a tolerance for working across multiple time zones.

Preferred Qualifications
- Technical background in the Internet, AI, cloud computing, data center industry, and relevant techs, knowledge of large language models would be preferred.

[For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (annually)

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $228800 - $357390 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
