About the Team:
Our Global Legal Compliance team provides key support for all of ByteDance's and TikTok's innovative initiatives, state-of-the-art products, and integrated platforms servicing our global markets. We help our technological and business teams enable their vision by providing integrated legal and compliance guidance and support. The ByteDance and TikTok team are growing fast and is seeking a highly experienced, bright, and capable legal/compliance specialist to join us.
We are looking for a Sanctions Specialist to join our Global Legal Compliance team based in the Americas to cover our global sanctions compliance program. The candidate we are seeking is a compliance professional with good experience and passion in a global environment, particularly in sanctions, along with expertise in customer due diligence, know your customer requirements and procedures, sanctions screening mechanisms, and compliance and financial crime investigations. The ideal candidate should be willing to work in a fast-paced environment with cross-functional teams in different timezones and embrace challenges to navigate in various jurisdictions and new issues. The successful candidate will have a high degree of ownership of the solutions they launch and the ability to make systematic, impactful changes at our rapidly growing company. A familiarity with and a passion for our products is a plus.

Responsibilities:
- Support existing sanctions tools and systems, and ensure that company-wide compliance programs, including sanctions name screening systems and Know Your Customer (KYC) and other onboarding programs, are implemented globally with effective monitoring.
- Review, analyze, and assess potential issues identified by sanctions systems and provide actionable and immediate compliance recommendations.
- Work with cross-functional and product groups in support of customer onboarding and transaction screening programs.
- Assist in compliance investigations in support of sanctions and other compliance issues.

- Conduct or assist in periodic risk assessment to identify gaps and to improve on the compliance programs, processes, and procedures.
- Establish strong working relationships and build trust and credibility with stakeholders, influencing and supporting a culture of compliance.
- Assist in drafting compliance operating procedures and other compliance documentation.
- Work with technical and product solutions teams to implement enhancements to sanctions system controls.
- Additional project and ad hoc work as necessary to support the Global Legal Compliance team.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
- A recognized Bachelor's degree in Law, Risk Management, Finance, or Accounting, or equivalent is required.
- Possesses a deep understanding of the substance and nuances of compliance operations in the sanctions area, skillfully interpreting and applying compliance concepts to effectively handle various legal compliance matters, including in ambiguous situations; takes on a leadership role in addressing complex compliance topics, where warranted, exhibiting a high level of autonomy and responsibility; considers both business and legal implications of advice with a well-attuned understanding of risk;
- Demonstrated experience in the tech industry. In particular, specific experience with sanctions compliance products and toolings. Law enforcement investigation experience is a plus.
- Possess the highest standard of ethics and a positive attitude towards learning and willing to pick up new knowledge and skills.
- Able to work well independently and in a team environment.
- A confident self-starter with strong interpersonal and organizational skills, yet with creative mind, and demonstrate the ability to effectively and proactively exercise good judgment and partner with the business in a fast-paced environment.
- Willing to be available for meetings that are scheduled before or after home time zone normal business hours.
- Willing to travel.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating flexibility, commitment to teamwork, and a willingness to change assignments meet clients' needs. Anticipates clients needs and delivers with timeliness, accurately sensing the urgency and sensitivity to the situation.
- Ability to manage heavy workload volume and meet critical deadlines with little supervision.
- Proactively identifies problems or issues and takes lead in resolving issues, and makes recommendations for necessary process improvements.
- Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of the clients' business, industry and organization and shows support for delivery of the product, services and initiatives of the organization.
- Demonstrates creativity in finding solutions and uses good judgment in doing so.
- Demonstrates ability to influence and enlist support.

Job Information

[For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (annually)

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $170667 - $319200 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.

Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
