As a Product Policy Manager - Model Policy in our Trust & Safety team, you will empower innovation in our use of AI models and products by supporting the development of accurate, effective, fair, and transparent machine moderation. This is achieved by ensuring seamless policy updates to machine moderation, improving the quality of enforcement model training and development, and driving capability building for T&S expertise in Generative AI safety. You will partner with cross-functional stakeholders across the product, engineering, research, responsible AI, and legal teams to innovate and define safety approaches based on leading industry practices and latest market trends. Your work will be critical in shaping ByteDance's model and AI initiatives, and ensuring content safety on our platforms.

Responsibilities
What will I be doing?
- Identify and anticipate product and content safety risks to support new launches of AI models and products
- Establish clear safety and ethical guidelines for model training, informed by best practices and technical understanding of machine learning and generative AI techniques
- Partner with relevant teams to maintain AI pipelines, optimize model deployment and scale implementation
- Monitor and analyze user interactions with our AI products and deployment of AI models, to inform policy development and enforcement
- Partner with product, engineering, research, ops, legal, and PR teams to innovate our safety approaches based on the latest developments and best practices
- Conduct research to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in responsible AI development processes and find opportunities to integrate within AI models and products

Qualifications

What should I bring with me?
- You have 3-8 years of experience working in the technology industry, with exposure to model training, policy development, program management, and/or risk assessment
- You have a deep understanding and interest in the key policy issues that impact AI
- You have a bachelors or masters degree in artificial intelligence, public policy, politics, law, economics, behavioural sciences, or any other related field
- You are a confident self-starter with excellent judgment, and can balance multiple trade-offs to develop principled, enforceable, and defensible policies and strategies. You have persuasive oral and written communication, with the ability to translate complex challenges into simple and clear language and persuade cross-functional partners in a dynamic, fast-paced, and often uncertain environment
- You have experience working with international partners across different time zones and cultures.

Preferred qualifications:
- Proven ability to develop sound research methodologies and collect, synthesize, analyze, and interpret data
- Experience working in a start-up, or being part of new teams in established companies
