Responsibilities
About the Team:
We are looking for an experienced counsel to join the public policy subject matter expert team made up of seasoned tech policy leaders from an array of disciplines. The team provides strategic advice to the business and anticipates policy trends and impacts. We also proactively drive thought leadership by seeking out new ideas to help the company lead the industry. You will focus on matters involving US privacy and monetization policy, including analyzing and advising on proposed legislation at the state and federal level and serving as a subject matter expert for the broader Americas public policy team, based in Washington, DC.
Responsibilities:
- Anticipate and shape the future of tech policy by partnering with internal and external legal and government affairs teams to track, interpret, and respond to emerging privacy and monetization legislation in the United States.

- Provide actionable and practical advice on privacy and monetization product launches.
- Craft compelling, clear messaging that demystifies complex privacy and monetization related legal and policy issues for a broad audience-ensuring our public policy communications are both accurate and impactful.
- Navigate regulatory change with confidence, working hand-in-hand with legal counsel and government affairs experts to stay ahead of shifting tech regulations and safeguard the company's operations across the region.
- Advocate externally for TikTok, clearly articulate company positions with a broad variety of stakeholders.
- Work on emerging technology policy issues, as needed, and assume leadership over projects and initiatives on TikTok's public policy subject matter expert team.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- JD and significant legal experience, ideally in government, in-house, or at a law firm.
- Strong working knowledge of privacy and data security laws in the US, including US state privacy and minor safety laws.
- Strong understanding of the changing regulatory environment in US federal and state privacy and minor safety legislation, including the current state of proposed federal privacy legislation, and emerging legislation in the states.
- Experience advising on data privacy issues specifically related to Big Tech.
- Experience analyzing product initiatives related to advertising and monetization.
- Experience working across multiple functions, influencing, and collaborating with others to successfully implement programs and initiatives; history of successful cross-functional team and leadership collaboration.
- Strong research and analysis abilities paired with significant discretion. The individual will need to take complex and sensitive situations and effectively communicate their implications for the company, as well as defend priorities for the public policy function.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong working knowledge of global privacy and data security laws, including those outside of the United States (EU, Brazil, Canada etc.).
- Experience analyzing and shaping tech policy at a regulatory agency or legislative body, tech company, or law firm.
- Experience working with technology companies and ability to understand complex legal and technical issues.
- Experience partnering with global stakeholders.
- Demonstrated comfort with public speaking.
