We help our technological and business teams enable their vision by providing integrated legal guidance and support. Responsibilities
The Payments Compliance Counsel for the Americas will interpret federal and state money transmission laws and provide advice to the Lines of Business to ensure payments regulatory compliance in the U.S., Canada and LATAM. The candidate will also partner with Payments Commercial Legal to review and negotiate payments related agreements with third-party payment service providers and banks, and will assist product counsel with payments subject matter expertise. This role requires a strong understanding of payments regulatory compliance within the fintech industry, particularly in the creator economy, as well as the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams, including legal, compliance and business partners to drive operational excellence and achieve strategic goals.

You Will:
- Understand and provide advice regarding money transmission and stored value laws, and payment network rules, and work with compliance, product, legal, and operations to provide strategic guidance and interpretation of these laws and rules.
- Assist product counsels in reviewing new products and features by providing subject matter expertise in the payments and financial services space.
- Manage projects that span several departments, partners, and product offerings in the Americas.
- Understand and communicate complex risk, legal, and regulatory concepts to internal and external stakeholders.
- Establish strong working relationships and build trust and credibility with business leaders influencing and supporting a culture of payments compliance.
- Review and negotiate agreements with third-party payment service providers and other financial services companies and banks.
- Additional projects and ad-hoc work as necessary to support the E-Commerce, LIVE, Global Payments and Global Legal Compliance teams.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
-Deep understanding of payments regulatory compliance laws, including skillfully interpreting and applying legal concepts in ambiguous situations.
-Proven ability to lead complex legal matters, exhibiting a high level of autonomy and responsibility.
-Strong grasp of both business and legal implications, coupled with a well-attuned understanding of risk.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience with payment product compliance advisory and review, including risks and regulations for consumer financial services.
-Essential experience with US and Canadian money transmission, remittance, stored value, and prepaid access laws and payment network rules.
-Ability to interpret regulations and simplify complex information into understandable communications.
-Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, including engaging with leadership, external partners, and regulators.
-A proactive, pragmatic self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of managing heavy workloads.
-Experience reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements with payment and financial service providers.
-Global or regional experience gained in the fintech startup space or creator economy industry.
