About the Team
The Music Rights team is responsible for handling operational processes related to music copyright and fulfilling Bytedance's contractual requirements for licensed rightsholders. The team works cross-functionally with a wide variety of stakeholders (including music licensing teams, legal, product teams, and external record labels and publishers) to recognize product needs and provide feedback on what features should be developed next. We are seeking a Manager, Music rights to help run day-to-day operations for music rightsholders and support development of automatic content recognition and rights management products. They will be a core conduit between ByteDance and the music industry, ensuring that music rightsholders can effectively manage their content on TikTok and understand its impact. This person will actively research how music rightsholders use our products and will guide them as they navigate our systems and tools. This role will report to the Head of Music Rights, and be based in Los Angeles, CA.

Responsibilities:
- Support training music rightsholders on proper use of our automatic content recognition and rights management tools.
- Conduct deep research into how rightsholders are using our rights management tools and what impact their actions are having on TikTok and other applications.
- Create user-guide and best practice documentation for rights management products.
- Support internal teams on their questions related to music rights.
- Support external rightsholders as they use our tools and help them understand how their music manifests and is consumed on TikTok.
- Conduct audits of user behavior to identify fraud or misuse of tools and features.
- Research the effectiveness of our content recognition and rights management tools.
- Conduct audits to discover bugs or limitations of technology; create regular reports and recommend actions that should be taken based on that research.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in digital rights, music operations, or account management, preferably at a UGC platform, media company, or technology firm.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Demonstrated ability to cohesively collaborate with multiple cross-functional teams and external partners simultaneously.
- Demonstrated success working independently and exercising sound judgment.
- Ready to create, iterate on, and scale processes and workflows critical to understanding and supporting our music business.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with spreadsheets, dashboards, and other data tools (Excel at a minimum; SQL, Tableau, Domo, R, Python, etc. preferred).
- Experience in the music industry is a plus, with a preference for having worked directly with record label stakeholders.
Job Information
[For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (annually)
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $83600 - $192533 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location.
