About the Team
The Trust & Safety Policy team develops and reviews our community policies to promote a positive and safe environment for all of our Users and Content Creators to enjoy and express themselves.
Responsibilities
- Draft, analyse and update policy documentation for the market, leveraging local insights which are in line with our global approach to Trust and Safety;
- Formulate policy enforcement strategies for high-harm areas such as Hate, Violent Behaviors and Dangerous Actors, Mental Health, Integrity and Authenticity and Human Exploitation, specific to the Malaysian market;
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of policy guidance and occasional training documents for the Malaysian market and for high-harm policy areas, for moderators and other internal Trust and Safety teams;

- Act as the policy point of contact for Malaysia in coordination with local and global stakeholders, and respond to content related issues that might arise;
- Manage cross-team relationships, in particular with senior regional stakeholders, collaborate with Product, Operations, Legal, Public Policy and Public Relations teams to build consensus on, and evolve, content policies where necessary;
- Work closely with cross-functional partners and external experts to stay up-to-date on emerging social media trends in Malaysia, to predict and prevent violations of TikTok's Community Guidelines.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience in policy development, policy enforcement, or public policy, specifically in technology/social media/content;
- Business fluency in English and Bahasa Melayu, as this role will mainly cover the Malaysian market;
- Deep understanding of the Malaysian market, including local socio-cultural norms, public discourse on content safety considerations;
- An active interest in, and understanding of, the impact of technology, media, cultural trends relating to content safety;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to communicate complex ideas to multiple stakeholders;
- Demonstrated thought process regarding policy in an applied setting, including the ability to exercise good judgment and presence of mind in high-pressure, ambiguous situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of other Southeast Asian markets and languages is a plus as you will be called on to cover other SEA markets at times;
- Your ability to work in a high tempo environment, adapt, respond to day-to-day challenges of the role;
- Your resilience and commitment to self-care to manage the emotional demands of the role;
- Optimistic, thoughtful, and a self-starter who can own the ideation, prioritisation and execution of critical policy projects.
