Responsibilities

The Global Corporate Communications team is responsible for shaping and protecting the company's reputation through strategic, consistent, and compelling storytelling across all audiences and regions. This includes media relations, executive, crisis and reputation management, brand narrative development, and digital and social amplification. The team partners closely with stakeholders across public policy, marketing and legal to ensure aligned messaging and to manage external engagement.

This broad senior role will oversee global policy comms and legal comms, as well as shape and communicate the company's broader narrative and manage a range of issues as a key partner to the Global Head of Corporate Communications.

The candidate should have the ability to easily distill and communicate complex security, regulatory, and tech policy issues, and be adept at developing and driving broader company and technology/innovation narratives, including around product, AI, and safety. The individual will have a keen grasp of the political and regulatory landscape across key global markets, and support regulatory actions and amplify initiatives designed to educate and showcase platform security, integrity and youth safety. This person will manage the policy comms team and work collaboratively with cross-functional partners and other communications teams, especially Global Trust & Safety Comms. They will routinely engage with media/press to ensure accurate coverage and positioning of TikTok and its industry-leading commitment to safety and data security.
The ideal candidate has excellent leadership skills, is a self-starter, and can collaborate with ease across teams around the globe. You're good at connecting the dots. You work well under pressure, have experience managing crises, and thrive in an entrepreneurial environment.

- Drive strategic communications plans and programs that advance policy and broader business priorities and narratives, including reactive and proactive media communications and outreach.
- Closely coordinate with TikTok's government relations teams to keep abreast of policy and regulatory developments that affect our business, and build issue-specific playbooks.
- Develop and execute overarching companywide communications strategies to promote the company's overall vision as well as alignment of key business initiatives and objectives.
- Manage policy communications teams.
- Serve as a strategic thought partner to the Global Head of Corporate Communications, developing communication strategies and messaging to promote and protect the company and its corporate reputation, priorities and interests.
- Play a key role in all crisis communications activities, developing response strategies and relevant messaging that can be used across businesses, functions and regions. Implement proactive measures and rapid response protocols to address emerging issues effectively.
- Collaborate on speeches, briefing documents, and executive positioning aligned to key company narratives.
- Engage routinely with media/press to ensure accurate coverage of TikTok's businesses, activities and industry-leading commitment to users, creators and data security.
- Work in close collaboration with global policy, safety, and privacy PR teams to ensure message accuracy, consistency, and alignment of messaging across the company.
- Drive or assist with the creation of written materials (i.e. position papers, blog posts, social media updates) to support TikTok's policy objectives.
- Train and advise GR team members as company spokespeople as required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
- BA/BS degree or equivalent experience required.
- Extensive communications/public affairs experience, preferably in tech and including significant experience managing complex communications issues.
- Experience managing and motivating geographically diverse teams.
- Deep understanding of government processes and experience dealing with policy communications challenges across markets.
- Deep interest in technology and related policy issues.

Job Information

[For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (annually)

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $171600 - $403200 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.

Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
