Data Science Manager, Trust and Safety - USDS
Responsibilities
Team Overview
As the Data Science Manager on USDS US Trust and Safety team, you will be instrumental in ensuring that TikTok remains a safe, trustworthy, and risk-free environment. By implementing your domain knowledge, you will help diagnose, triage, and treat large-scale safety issues. You will scope out projects, use ground-truth data to inform strategies, and use data and insights to form best-in-class heuristics to proactively detect and disarm safety incidents. You will be leading the Data Science Scaled and Non-scaled Detection team's top priority while partnering with a variety of stakeholders across the product, operations, policy, and engineering teams - both locally and globally. The ideal candidate will have a background in Data Science and people management, strong technical skills and expertise working with loosely defined tasks.

In order to enhance collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, among other things, at this time, our organization follows a hybrid work schedule that requires employees to work in the office 3 days a week, or as directed by their manager/department. Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of data scientists and investigation analysts to design and establish indicator systems for safety and risks of the platform, monitor and optimize risk coverage in the content ecosystem, measure the performance of content safety strategies and facilitate intricate decision-making
- Own large-scale quantitative analysis projects from start to finish, including developing metrics, creating analytical frameworks, creation of detection systems, bringing in external vendor or 3rd party data for signal enhancement and distilling complex results into clear and concise insights
- Drive the strategic planning and execution of long-term business plans through in-depth business analysis, industry studies and the study of market trends
- Lead and collaborate with cross functional teams through communication of data supported insights
- Grow, guide and inspire a strong Data Science team, with a high-impact and ambitious data roadmap.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, or other related fields
- 5+ years of experience working in an analytical role, including 2+ years as a people manager
- Ability to solve problems using quantitative approaches and strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences to communicate complex concepts and analytical results to drive business impact
- Proficiency in querying data in SQL, and coding in Python or R
- Experience with creating data visualizations to communicate metric performance.

- Experience with statistical concepts or data modeling techniques, including: hypothesis testing, experiment design, and common regression and classification algorithms.
- Experience building data infrastructure and implementing reporting solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in data science, data analytics, or product analytics at a consumer technology company.
- Passion for social technology products and a curiosity to learn&grow with a fast paced company.
- Experience working with international partners in different time zones.
- Experience of working in Trust and Safety or risk management is a plus
- Your ability to work in a high tempo environment, adapt, respond to day-to-day challenges of the role.
- Your resilience and commitment to self-care to manage the emotional demands of the role.
Job Information
[For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (annually)
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $201000 - $395280 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
