Sr Tech Lead - Middleware
TIAA is seeking a Senior Middleware Technology lead with in depth knowledge of virtualization, containerization, Public Cloud, CI/CD and orchestration platforms such as Ansible, Puppet & Terraform. Individual will be providing technical expertise and a pragmatic approach to problem solving; maintaining system configuration based on business requirements; recognizing efficiency improvement opportunities - and proposing new processes as needed to address them; and maintaining documentation on System(s) and processes. This candidate is expected to be vigilant in their effort to identify and act on opportunities for efficiencies through automation or fundamental process improvement. Individual is expected to maintain strong partnership with Application development organizations to ensure Middleware solutions align to Application design strategies.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop and maintain automation to install/deploy Middleware technology and systems.
  • Leverage CI/CD Pipelines to integrate automation processes for fast, reliable and consistent deployments.
  • Review public cloud product deployments for utilization and ongoing cost efficiency.
  • Assess and promote opportunities to leverage Public Cloud where appropriate.
  • Assess and promote opportunities to leverage containerization where appropriate.  
  • Collaborate closely with platform engineering teams to ensure proposed solutions meet the criteria for availability, performance, resiliency, security and operational efficiency. 
  • Document and maintain Level 1, 2, 3 support responsibilities.
  • Identify and document repeatable issues across SDLC lifecycle and implement solutions to resolve completely.
  • Plan, install and test new Middleware software releases or upgrades.
  • Assist developers as appropriate to troubleshoot application related issues following infrastructure change or upgrade.
  • Facilitate automation as an enabler for self-services supporting infrastructure and development teams.
  • Create, update, and maintain documentation for Standard Operating Procedures & Policies as required for Middleware technology.
  • Support and facilitate incident and problem management as required to maintain a stable operational environment.
  • Collaborate and assist other infrastructure teams and development staff with application analysis, monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting during and after a code release.
  • Adhere to change management policies and procedures.
  • Assess, evaluate and recommend opportunities for efficiencies to enhance productivity and reduce cost. 
  • Drive adoption of our services across infrastructure and development teams.
  • Establish feedback loop ensuring consumption aligns with stated objectives. 
  • Proactively address Middleware Security Vulnerabilities and baseline security configuration standards in compliance with industry best practices.

Required Skills

  • 5 or more years’ experience in with Infrastructure-as-Code automation
  • 3 or more years’ experience with public cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure or OCI) or Certifications
  • Experience using container orchestration platforms such as Openshift, EKS or K8 native for applications and/or technology products
  • 5 or more years’ experience working with middleware technologies such as Oracle Weblogic, Tomcat, IBM Websphere, Springboot

Preferred Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in information systems or computer science or related work experience 
  • 3 or more years’ experience in software development using any of the following – Ansible, Puppet, Python, GO or JSON
  • Application Design skills -  Microservices, REST, JVM (Java - Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate), NodeJS
  • Hands on experience with Puppet, Docker, Ansible, NGINX, Apache,
  • Automation Testing: Automated Performance and Regression/Functional Testing
  • Devops tools - Cloudbees CI/CD Pipeline : Jenkins, Nexus, Artifactory, Gitlab
  • Experience: API Gateway, Service Mesh, Identity Services (Oauth/OpenID/SAML)

Potential Salary: $173,400.00 USD

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.  In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
