Securities Valuation Associate

The primary purpose and function of the Associate within the Securities Valuation Team (SVT) is to conduct price reviews for financial instruments held within the Nuveen and TIAA-CREF Funds, affiliate institutional and retail separately-managed accounts and/or the TIAA General Account (GA), ensuring that the prices received primarily from independent pricing services are reasonable and reflect current market value. Additionally, the Associate is responsible for preparing and presenting monthly reports summarizing the results of such reviews to stakeholder groups including the respective Valuation Committees who oversee activities conducted by SVT.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  •  Under the supervision of management or a more senior member of SVT, review price exceptions generated through daily and periodic exception reporting, validate prices through available market information and analysis and issue price challenges to the respective pricing services, when appropriate.

Administer fair value pricing methodologies and apply price source hierarchies in accordance with approved policies and procedures.

  • Monitor financial markets and conduct independent research to develop and maintain a broad understanding of current/future macro and micro market conditions and fundamentals that may impact pricing and valuation.

  • Analyze corporate action events and ensure resulting entitlements are recorded timely and reflect current market value.

  • Prepare and present summary analysis of review activities to the respective Valuation Committees; provide requested pricing support to internal clients.

  • Prepare written event summaries and Valuation Committee meeting minutes.

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    • 2 years experience in Investment management including securities front-office trading, investment operations, fund accounting

    Preferred:

    • 3 years experience in Investment management including front-office trading, investment operations, fund accounting
    • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or other Business degree, Master's Degree preferred
    • Previous securities valuation, securities analysis and/or corporate action experience preferred.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability in order to analyze terms and conditions data, model cash flows and evaluate available market information needed to assess the reasonability of financial instrument prices
    • Determinations are typically time-critical and require sound judgment
    • General understanding of the valuation tools and techniques used to price financial instruments as well as the regulatory framework guiding financial instrument valuation for investment companies
    • Knowledge of Nuveen and TIAA’s investment products and strategies
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as strong presentation skills are required for the role
    • The Associate will work closely with SVT team members, analysts from the Investment Risk and Oversight teams, Data Management, Investment Operations, IT, Fund Administration, Compliance, Internal Audit as well as the respective investment managers
    • Associate will prepare and present summary analysis of review activities to the respective Valuation Committees consisting of senior members of Management
    • External communications include third party subadvisors, fund accounting and custody administrators and pricing services

    Potential Salary: $72,800.00 USD

    Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.  In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
