Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a highly accomplished, versatile photojournalist to join our award-winning, industry-leading team. The ideal candidate will conceive, research and develop visual assignments across a wide range of subjects-from politics to lifestyle-with a strong visual voice and a passion for storytelling.

Applicants should have a minimum of three years' experience working in a professional newsroom, superior news judgment and excellent visual storytelling skills. This role requires a multimedia expert adept at still photography, video and written reporting, capable of crafting immersive and visually compelling narratives. The successful candidate will be technically skilled, open to diverse visual approaches and able to elevate our journalism across all platforms.

We're looking for someone who consistently produces engaging, innovative, and high-impact stories-breaking news, insightful features, and visually driven long-form enterprise work-with creativity, depth, and originality.

Responsibilities:
  • Proactively produce best-in-class photojournalism across a broad range of topics on deadline.
  • Research, conceive, develop and execute the next iteration in visual journalism.
  • Innovate in creating immersive and visually compelling narratives across a variety platforms and surfaces, including on social media.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a professional photojournalist is required.
  • A nuanced eye for photography and a strong understanding of visual storytelling is essential.
  • An enthusiasm for innovation in visual journalism.
  • Strong news judgment, a bias for speed and ability to shift rapidly from subject to subject is essential.
  • Proficiency in handling photographs quickly using Adobe products and Photo Mechanic is essential, and an ability to work with video is preferred.
This position is based in our Washington, D.C., newsroom and will require some night and weekend shifts to meet deadlines and respond to breaking news.

The salary range for this position is: $92,600.00 - $138,800.00 USD. The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.

The Washington Post's policy for employees is five days per week in the office, with exceptions for newsgathering and general business travel.
