Why This Role Matters

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Network Engineer to join our IT team. This role is responsible for the design, deployment, installation, maintenance, and performance reporting of network infrastructure, both on-premises and in the cloud. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure secure, scalable, and reliable network operations.

How You'll Support The Mission

  • Install, upgrade, and maintain all network hardware, network operating systems, and software as needed.
  • Guide and assist with the installation, upgrade, and support of assigned network hardware, network operating systems, and software.
  • Monitor and administer the network, keeping system information up-to-date in a network log. Perform network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose network problems. Manage the usage of the network, network infrastructure, and network technical resources.
  • Maintain a backup of all files, security, operating systems, and rights.
  • Establish network users, user environment, directory structures, rights, security, and software on network equipment, and respond to the needs and questions of users concerning their access to resources on the network.
  • Administer and provide technical support for various network engineering solutions as a result of consulting departments throughout the newspaper.
  • Document procedures and practices followed on the network.
  • Maintain a written summary of all pending work in a written or online format and prepare weekly reports of activity, progress, and problems.
  • Manage and maintain the hardware, software, security, and connectivity to the Internet.
  • Make recommendations regarding network architecture, evaluation of related hardware and software products, and network problem resolution.
  • Provide staffing for Communications systems support to meet Service Level Agreements, including participating in after-hours and on-call support rotation as needed.
  • Attend technical conferences and seminars to keep abreast of new software and hardware product developments.
The Skills and Experience You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required; focus in computer science, engineering, business, or related technical field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of technical experience as a network engineer
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform complex technical tasks and analysis
  • Demonstrate the capability of working independently as well as part of a team
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with team members, vendors, and management
  • An advanced degree or relevant professional certification, such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP), is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with network monitoring tools such as MRTG, WhatsUp Gold and Solarwinds.
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience with switching technologies (L2/L3, 802.1q/1p, Rapid STP, etc.).
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience with network security products (SSL VPN, IDP/IDS, etc).
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience with TCP/IP and routing protocols such as OSPF, and BGP, preferably in both LAN/WAN environments..
  • Demonstrated knowledge of network design and the implementation process
  • Demonstrated knowledge of network troubleshooting and hardware configuration
  • Extensive familiarity with Cisco routers and switches
  • Familiar with Juniper Networks routers, switches, and firewalls.

Benefits may vary based on the job, full-time or part-time schedule, location, and collectively bargained status.

The salary range for this position is:
$81,600 - $136,000 Annual

The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
