This Human Resources Business Partner is responsible for providing both strategic and tactical HR support to Client Solutions and Subscriptions . This HRBP will provide functional expertise, leadership, support and guidance to management and employees. The successful candidate will partner closely with senior leaders, managers, and HR colleagues to build a high-performance organization and culture that recognizes and values differences and where teamwork is expected, and employees do their best work. Provides hands on HR expertise in the areas of employee relations, employee learning and development, coaching, on-boarding and more. This role will represent HR by communicating philosophies, processes, policies, and capabilities to department management and employees.

Responsibilities include:
  • Provide advice and support to managers when developing their team and managing performance. Serve as a sounding board for managers who may be struggling to resolve difficult people issues, confront problems, raise standards, and improve hiring practices. Offer practical advice to managers and push to increase their leadership capacity
  • Serve as a thought partner to executives and leaders. Ask thought provoking questions and provide guidance and recommendations based on your experience yet tailored to our environment
  • Facilitate communication between departments and HR teams, ensuring successful project execution and enhancing overall productivity
  • Partner with leadership to identify learning and development needs, and execute solutions
  • Actively work to shape the culture of Client Solutions and Subscriptions, specifically in the New York office, particularly as it relates to our catalysts (ideas, speed, ownership and leadership), as well as promoting our bedrock value of integrity
  • Assess current employee relations climate and develop new programs to improve employee response to strategic business initiatives. Strengthen lines of communication within and between all levels
  • Conduct exit interviews for Client Solutions and Subscriptions, compiling the data into themes, and sharing those themes with managers, as well as executives
  • Conduct training for managers, and sometimes for employees, including training around goal-setting, giving and receiving feedback, and preparing for and conducting appraisals. Work with managers in the process of writing and conducting appraisals with the aim of delivering more honest, balanced, comprehensive, and developmental appraisals
  • Partner closely with the Talent Acquisition team based in DC regarding their recruiting for positions based in New York
  • This role will support the HR Department and The Post's Talent Strategy for Growth (six major pillars included Leadership, Culture, Diversity, Talent, Marketing, Workplace Technology, and Data & Analytics) by tailoring our initiatives in each of these six areas for the New York office. Connect the broader work of the company to the New York office so that this growing location feels more a part of The Post, and less like an outpost
Requirements include:
  • Bachelor's Degree or at least 7 years as a Human Resources Generalist or Business Partner in increasingly responsible roles, or and equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Demonstrated strong judgement and Employee Relations experience with working knowledge of other HR functional areas
  • Willingness and ability to change altitudes, with proven facility in shifting between strategic, tactical, and sometimes transactional areas of focus
  • Experience working with dispersed teams and fostering connections across geographies and time zones
  • Experience working in a union-environment preferred

Benefits may vary based on the job, full-time or part-time schedule, location, and collectively bargained status.

The Washington Post includes salary ranges for certain positions to comply with local pay transparency laws. The salary range for this position is:
105,600.00 - 176,000.00 USD Annual

The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
