What you'll do

As a talented, self-motivated, and experienced legal professional that is excited by taking on complex legal projects, you will be able to exercise sound, independent legal judgment in high-stakes circumstances. You will be both professionally and personally engaged in keeping up to date with the ever-changing data governance landscape related to advertising technology globally.

The main focus of this role will be to maintain and enhance the company's data governance program, covering all our key regions globally, in partnership with your legal colleagues.

You will be responsible for maintaining, designing and implementing internal and external processes and policies that ensure the company stays up to date with its data governance obligations. This will include closely collaborating with privacy, product counsel, and commercial data attorneys (as well as cross-functional teams) to build and standardize internal information sharing and record-keeping workflows with respect to personal data being processed by the company. This will also include maintaining external data privacy disclosures (such as privacy policies and any other public data compliance / security statements) as well as internal privacy documentation (DPIAs, ROPAs, LIAs) pertaining to such data processing activities, and owning the cross-functional coordination process for all changes and updates to that documentation.

You will also work collaboratively with Information Security, Trust & Safety, and other cross-functional data teams to advise on data compliance products and tools and to maintain and enhance internal legal policies for how the company manages personal data (including cross-border data transfers, data access controls, data retention, data subject rights, and incident response and data breach policies).

You will be responsible for keeping the company's DPO informed of relevant developments in the data governance program, and for consulting with them where required.

Who you are

Education: J.D. degree from ABA accredited law school.

Bar: Must be a member in good standing of an applicable state.

Experience:

  • 8+ years of legal experience.
  • Extensive experience developing and maintaining data governance and/or privacy compliance programs.
  • Detailed understanding of data governance requirements set forth by US state privacy laws (e.g. CPRA) and by European privacy regulations (e.g. GDPR).
  • Experience understanding and working with highly complex dataflows and elaborate technology.
  • Familiarity with legal issues impacting the digital advertising ecosystem is preferred.
  • Some exposure to legal issues and self-regulatory frameworks in the Information Security space is a plus.
  • An interest in data governance legislation in other global regions is a plus.

NY, CO, CA, and WA residents only: In accordance with NY, CO, CA, and WA law, the range provided is The Trade Desk's reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount may differ based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and location. All employees may be eligible to become The Trade Desk shareholders through eligibility for stock-based compensation grants, which are awarded to employees based on company and individual performance. The Trade Desk also offers other compensation depending on the role such as sales-based incentives and commissions. Plus, expected benefits for this role include comprehensive healthcare (medical, dental, and vision) with premiums paid in full for employees and dependents, retirement benefits such as a 401k plan and company match, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, well-being benefits, reimbursement for certain tuition expenses, parental leave, sick time of 1 hour per 30 hours worked, vacation time for full-time employees up to 120 hours thru the first year and 160 hours thereafter, and around 13 paid holidays per year. At the Trade Desk, Base Salary is one part of our competitive total compensation and benefits package and is determined using a salary range. The base salary range for this role is$164,900-$302,400 USD
