The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, and developing new products, and maintaining existing outdoor power equipment product line. Must execute project plan to deliver new product development, and continuous improvement on time. Insure that cost, performance, reliability, safety goals, and DFMA metrics meet established requirements.

What Will You Do? 

In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:  

  • Create new design concepts to solve custom problems in novel and reliable ways.

  • Use CAD software to implement design concepts in to manufacturable at scale solutions.  (should I just say CREO here?)

  • Prepare sketches, BOMs, layouts, assembly drawings, and prints, and other documentation of design.

  • Coordinate with drafters, model makers, technical publishers, technicians, and outside vendors.

  • Draft design specifications to be followed by supporting engineering groups, manufactures, and vendors.  

  • Coordinate on product design with a variety of engineering groups.

  • Research and propose materials and processes to be used in designs.

  • Ensure designs meet the durability, performance, manufacturability, and quality criteria of Toro and industry safety standards.

  • Analyze proposed engineering designs using calculations, computer simulation design reviews, and industrial metrics

  • Co-develop test plans with test engineering department to insure design performance and safety.

  • Work with Legal on potential patent activities and liability avoidance.

  • Perform continuous improvement activities to improve design manufacturability, price, reliability or sourcing.

  • Structure documentation and designs into ERP and PLM systems

  • Work with assembly plants and vendors to maintain production.

What Do You Need? 

To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an ABET accredited Mechanical, Electrical, Agricultural engineering program or similar engineering degree. 

  • Engineer I-0-2 years of experience for Mechanical Design

  • Engineer II-3-5 years of experience for Mechanical Design

  • High level of proficiency in 3D CAD software

  • Must be able to create and analyze complete product designs.

  • Must be able to direct the work of drafters and designers

  • Skillfully collaborates with cross functional teams, promote big picture thinking.

  • Communicates with highly competent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred experience:

  • Experience with Lean NPD and Continuous Improvement is highly preferred

  • Experience with battery technologies, mechatronics, control systems, electric motors and related regulatory/safety conformance is highly preferred

  • SAP or Windchill experience preferred

Competitive Salary The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the annual pay range is between ​$71700- ​$105000. Cash compensation is one piece of our competitive total rewards package. You may be eligible to participate in an incentive program, which rewards employees based on individual and organizational performance.
