Job Title: Process Engineer

Reports to: Engineering & Facilities Manager

Position Location: Christchurch, NZ

Position Summary:

Thermo Fisher Scientific New Zealand is a leading manufacturer of purified protein and serum products for the global bio-production and research industries. We are currently seeking a talented Process Engineer to join our team. This role offers a unique opportunity to be directly involved in projects, providing technical support and insight for our facilities, equipment, and processes at our Christchurch site. Additionally, there will be opportunities to contribute to our Auckland and Nelson sites as needed, working with innovative equipment and systems.

We are looking for an Engineer with a proven track record in project management and delivery. Experience in hygienic process manufacturing within regulated industries such as food, dairy, or pharmaceuticals is highly desirable. An understanding of chemicals and industrial automation systems will also be beneficial in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support and insight for our facilities, equipment, and processes.
  • Lead and manage projects aimed at improving infrastructure and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to drive innovation and implement innovative solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and maintain a high level of safety and quality.
  • Contribute to the success of our global bio-production and research endeavors.
  • Assure that our equipment, facilities and processes are safe and fit for purpose.
  • Perform validation and calibration activities to directly support the sites quality systems and project implementation.
  • Belonging to the engineering team, we are involved with some day-to-day engineering maintenance, respond to facilities/utilities breakdowns and carry out engineering technical investigations as required.
  • We are a quality focused organization, so an understanding of compliance and quality management systems including change control, deviations and investigations is required.
  • Collaborating with external service providers / contractors.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

Qualifications & Experience

  • A university degree (BEng) or equivalent.
  • Experience in an engineering function preferably within an industrial environment related to the production of biological or pharmaceutical type products.
  • Experience acquired across several industries (preferred)

Other Job Requirements:

  • Follow EHS policies and procedures and ensure a safe workplace environment
  • The position may require you to participate in on call work. If you are on call you are required to be available for immediate return to work outside of your normal and regular work pattern. Should this be a requirement of your position, there is remuneration as per the policy.
