Job Title: Facilities Engineer

Location: Horsham

Thermo Fisher Scientific, a global leader in the life sciences industry, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Facilities Engineer to join our team at our pharmaceutical packaging and distribution site. As a Facilities Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of our facilities and utilities systems, supporting the packaging and distribution of pharmaceutical products that positively impact lives worldwide.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of facilities and utilities systems, including electricity, gas, HVAC, compressed air, plumbing, and general building maintenance.
  • Implement preventive maintenance programs to minimise downtime and ensure the reliability of critical equipment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement energy-saving initiatives and optimise utility systems' efficiency, including the building management system.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for facilities and utilities systems, ensuring adherence to safety guidelines and best practices.
  • Manage and coordinate contractors and vendors for facility-related projects, ensuring timely completion within budgetary constraints.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any facilities or utilities-related issues promptly, minimising impact on operations.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements, incorporating relevant technologies and practices into the facility's operations.
  • General handyman work. This may include tasks such as minor repairs, painting, carpentry, and other maintenance duties as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the facilities.
  • Participate in the 24/7 department call out rota.

Requirements:

  • Recognised qualification (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent technical experience.
  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in facilities and utilities engineering, preferably in a pharmaceutical or highly regulated industry.
  • Knowledge of facilities and utilities systems, including electricity, gas, HVAC, compressed air, plumbing, and water systems.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as cGMP, MHRA & HSWA.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret technical data and drawings.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive and hands-on approach.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Project management skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and software related to facilities and utilities management.
