How will you make an impact?

The Director, China Direct Procurement is the leader responsible for developing and driving the Procurement vision with key colleagues within China on direct materials spend. The individual will be a key partner to business and operations leader with a focus on strategy, execution and implementation. This position will facilitate the development and execution of long-term strategies that will optimize quality, cycle/response time, technology, risk, and total cost. The role will mitigate risk, use technology, improve processes and systems, and reduce overall cost of ownership and acquisition.

Scale of Responsibilities

  • Establish and implement short and long-term goals, strategic plans, policies and procedures aligned with the China performance metrics
  • Deliver on key objectives (Annual Operating Plan - AOP), delivery, quality, service, cost, innovation, and growth commitments for Regional Procurement
  • Partners with Category Managers, R&D, Engineering to deliver annual value improvements and drives competitive advantage
  • Partner with Supply Chain to create demand plans for supplier partners
  • Ensure alignment with business colleagues on projects
  • Serve as the point of contact and ensure the implementation of Enterprise Processes such as Supplier Quality, Supplier Risk and Supplier Management

Technical Responsibilities

  • Gather local business requirements and assures compliance to regulatory requirements
  • Engage with Supplier Partners, ensuring capacity to meet demand and works with Category Management to close gaps
  • Drive and track compliance as well as link with Global and regional teams for policies and procedures
  • Use 'scouting approach' to influence R&D and Commercial partners earlier in NPI process, monitor product pipeline (LCM), support product platforming
  • Serve as escalation point of contact for Procurement within China, work with Category Management to resolve problems
  • Consolidate, analyze and report on China procurement metrics for business reviews

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provides input to category strategies (Global, Region, Group specific) and support implementation of aligned strategies
  • Engage with supplier leadership (Vice President, General Managers, President, Functional and Operations Leaders) to solve business problems and assure alignment with Thermo Fisher objectives
  • Develop and assess procurement talent and improve resource productivity and professionalism
  • Mentors and develops staff through coaching and development plans to address individual areas of improvement
  • Implements talent initiatives to improve Employee Involvement Survey results
  • Execute on the Procurement Operating Model vision in all ways of working (e.g., leveraging COEs, Procurement Enablement and adopting standardized processes)

How will you get here?

Education

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain/Materials Management, Business Logistics or a related area or equivalent; MBA preferred

Experience

  • A minimum of 12 years of procurement/sourcing experience
  • High level of proficiency with core Procurement skills (engineering, sourcing)
  • Strong influencing skills with ability to see issues from multiple viewpoints and understand differing needs of colleagues
  • Significant business knowledge and proven team building skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to respond to changes in the external environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to confidently present complex information
  • Results oriented, metrics driven leader with a root cause, permanent fix approach, continuous improvement approach

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong procurement and sourcing background
  • Demonstrated business acumen and understanding of operations
  • 5+ years' experience leading and managing procurement teams with a focus on mentoring, coaching and performance management
  • Progressively responsible career path in manufacturing operations and procurement with significant practical experience in international settings
  • Strong analytical skills and process focus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively to empower global constituents to meet business objectives, and possess strong presentation skills at all levels of the organization
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal skills, and unquestioned integrity and trust
