About the Role

Under the supervision of the Contract Service General Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Group Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of maintenance for Newark Liberty International Airport's FIS, Terminal B, Northeast Corridor Rail Station and AirTrain Stations. Continuous interaction with Newark Airport's Air Carriers, NICC committee, TSA, Customs and Border Patrol and various other entities involved in the operation of the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the interaction of the Port Authority Baggage Handling System Contract and the TSA to ensure security compliance and proper operation. Work with Port Authority Operations to ensure Belt Contractor has belt lines ready for use when needed and support any changes that may arise to support facility operations.
  • Supervise the Loading Bridge contract for the Port Authority Bridges at Terminal B and A. Knowledge of aircraft docking & mating systems with our Passenger Boarding Bridges.
  • Supervise Janitorial contracts that are responsible for all of Terminal B, the FIS facility, AirTrain System as well as the North-East Corridor and portions of old Terminal A. All areas include snow removal during winter operations.
  • Supervise multi-trade contract Terminal B maintenance contract.
  • Oversee PA Maintenance staff assigned to Terminal B in all aspects of their day-to-day activities.
  • Identify requirements for equipment, staffing and material service contracts. Maintain equipment and material inventories for all contracts.
  • Inspect facility and recommend to the General Maintenance Supervisor maintenance procedures to lessen repair problems that affect the operational efficiency and public safety.
  • Assist the Contract Administer in developing and administering the facility snow removal contract.
  • Coordinate with NJ Transit and Amtrak to direct the snow removal at the NEC station.
  • Responsible to manage and approve unit cost labor and work performed by various contractors as necessary to ensure contract compliance; collect, review, and sign off on all job tickets for monthly review and sign off by Unit Group Supervisor and General Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Provide daily shift reports to the General Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Perform quarterly contractor equipment inspections and provide the Unit Supervisor equipment status updates to ensure contract compliance.
  • Perform random audits on any contract involving staff, materials, equipment, inventoried spare parts, etc. at the direction of the General Maintenance Supervisor and supply a written record comparing the Contract requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Perform daily tour inspections of restrooms and customer sensitive areas to ensure world class service. This includes immediately using contract and Port Authority resources to remedy any deficiency less than world class during your chosen tour.

Additional Information

  • This is a permanent FM-3 Maintenance Group Supervisor position at Newark International Airport.


  • Selected candidate will be required to work an 8-hour shift with fixed RDO's that could include weekends and holidays.


  • The selected candidate must be able to respond to declared emergencies, including snow conditions, and work on an overtime basis as a regular function of the job for emergencies, key-to-key coverage, etc.


  • Selected candidates will be required to apply and be able to maintain the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Card and airfield DR2 driving privileges within three (3) months of selection.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have three (3) years of full-time, paid maintenance work experience, with 1 year of paid full-time supervisory experience


  • Must take and pass an Entry-Level Assessment (ESA) given by the Port Authority virtually.


  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of airport terminal, landside, and aeronautical operations.
  • Knowledge of Airport Security Program and ability to enforce security standards.
  • Knowledge of mechanical (gear reducers and drives), electrical (motor starters, controllers, and PLC's)
  • Effective written, oral and interpersonal skills with experience interacting with PA staff, public agencies at various levels, contractors, tenants and the public.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, hydronic systems, and HVAC
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Knowledge of Contractor's work order system; Maximo is desired.
  • Experience in aeronautical snow removal.
