The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey offers paid internships, providing students with the opportunity to work with experienced professionals on assignments critical to building, operating, and maintaining transportation and infrastructure assets in New York and New Jersey. Assignments include hands-on projects where interns quickly become part of the team and help the agency with its mission of keeping the region moving. The diversity of our businesses creates a variety of opportunities for students to gain exposure to the work of a first-class public agency.

We offer internships in departments, like: Aviation; Communications; Continuous Improvement; Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; Engineering; Health & Safety; Finance; Human Resources; Intergovernmental Affairs; Major Capital Projects; Management & Budget; Marketing; Media Relations; Operations; Planning & Regional Development; Port; Procurement; Project Management; Rail Transit (PATH); Security; Sustainability; Technology; Treasury; Tunnels, Bridges & Terminals; World Trade Center; and more.

Focus areas of internships can include: engineering; architecture; construction management; data analytics; operations; customer experience; policy; talent acquisition; talent management; finance; wildlife programs; asset management; technology; planning; sustainability; process improvement; business development; community outreach/relations; social media; graphic design; photography/videography; economics; innovation; project management; cyber security; maintenance; media relations; audit; special events; and much more.

Qualifications:

  • For the 2026 Summer Internship Program, candidates must be students who have plans to continue their studies in an undergraduate or graduate program during the Fall 2026 semester.

Internship Details:

  • The 2026 Summer Internship Program will likely start toward the end of May 2026, lasting approximately 12 weeks
  • Most internships are hybrid (4 days in-person and 1 day remote), but some are fully in-person
